Louise Humann Library and Resource Centre

Student library leaders, a multicultural celebration and the Premiers’ Reading Challenge begins for 2026. This month the library has been bustling with a range of activities and student led events.  Our library monitors have been volunteering at the front desk each lunchtime, assisting students, and helping the library staff while learning about the collections. Their confidence and skills are increasing with every shift as they tick off their new knowledge about the library.

Last week we had our second annual Multicultural Celebration in the library. This is an initiative started by last year’s school captain Mandy Yako. We had students representing a range of countries: Vanuatu, Japan, Indonesia, Hawaii, Italy, China, Spain, South Sudan, India/Punjab, Nigeria, Vietnamese, Poland and the Acknowledgement of Country was read by Roxy representing The First Nation people of this country. Each student in attendance was able to explain their connection to their country and present items / stories from the homelands. It was a colourful and heart-warming session and as you can see from the photos, the students and staff had a wonderful time.

The Premiers’ Reading Challenge has started for 2026 with students keen to jump onto the website and start their reading challenges.  Students are asked to read 15 or more books between March and September with some of our students completing the list in only three months last year!

As well as reading their choice of books and recording them on the website, they can discuss with other students their preferred genres, authors and series. Successful students will have an opportunity to attend an excursion to the State Library in September, receive a certificate signed by the Premier and celebrate with a luncheon in the library.  All students from Year 7 to Year 10 are welcome to join in.

This year’s Challenge theme is ‘Stories to discover. Stories to tell’. Stories can inspire and challenge us, and help us grow. They open our eyes to new worlds and new ways of thinking.

All students who complete the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former premiers. They will also attend the State Library with other Challenge participants for an excursion.

A reminder that the library is open from 8:00am every morning and we are open until 4:30pm each day except Friday when we close at 4:00pm. Students can complete homework and get assistance from the Learning Support Team in a supportive and caring environment.
