Student Learning & Growth

We have officially reached the end of the NAPLAN testing period for 2026 and I would like to acknowledge the collective effort of our students, staff and families in ensuring a smooth and successful experience. Despite some technical difficulties at the very start, our students approached the assessments with maturity and resilience, demonstrating not only their academic capabilities but also their ability to manage the routines and expectations of a formal testing environment.

I extend my sincere thanks to our parents and carers for your ongoing support throughout this period. From ensuring students were well-rested and punctual, to offering encouragement at home, your partnership plays a vital role in helping students feel confident and prepared. NAPLAN is just one measure of student progress, but it provides valuable insights that help us tailor teaching and learning to best meet the needs of every student. We now look forward to receiving the results later in the year and using this data thoughtfully to inform our next steps.

In other exciting news, we are delighted to see strong interest in the upcoming TEDx Youth opportunity. Thirteen students have signed up to be part of this initiative, which reflects their curiosity, creativity and willingness to challenge themselves. This experience will support students to develop their voice, refine their ideas and build confidence in public speaking. We look forward to seeing the powerful messages that will emerge from this group as they prepare their talks and leave their final legacy on YouTube.

As we continue through the term, I would like to remind all students of the importance of carrying and using their Student Planner every day. The planner is more than just a diary. It is a key organisational tool that supports students in managing their time, tracking homework and assessment tasks and developing independence. Regular use helps students build strong study habits, reduces anxiety around deadlines and promotes accountability for their learning. It also serves as an important communication bridge between school and home, allowing families to stay informed and engaged. We encourage parents to check the planner each week, discuss upcoming tasks and celebrate progress. Furthermore, this year we have included some teaching tools that staff will use as Exit Tickets or to Check for Understanding using the mini-whiteboard page. These are important engagement activities for the whole class and can measure how well learning has been retained as well as indicate where the next lesson should begin.  The Student Planner will be particularly useful over the holidays as it will serve as a reminder for all upcoming tasks, uniform and classroom expectations as well as key dates, allowing all students to make a strong start in Term 2.

I would like to take this opportunity to warmly invite all families to attend our upcoming Parent Teacher Student Interviews that are scheduled throughout the year. These conversations are a valuable opportunity to discuss learning, celebrate achievements and set goals for continued growth.

Interviews will be held on Wednesday April 29 and Tuesday May 5 from 4.00pm to 7.30pm and Wednesday September 2 from 1.00pm to 6.00pm. We strongly encourage all families to take part. More communications will be available nearer the time but this is a chance to put the dates into your diary.

As the term draws to a close, I would like to wish all members of our community a peaceful Easter and a safe and restful holiday break. Thank you again for your continued support of our school community. We are proud of the way our students are engaging in their learning and look forward to the many opportunities ahead.
