Kindergarten Koalas News

Wow – what an exciting term we’ve had in Kindergarten! Our students have been busy exploring stories, sounds, and the world around them with so much enthusiasm. We have explored the special connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples have with Country and Place through Dreaming stories, mapping, and rich discussions that brought history and geography to life. We learned about the significance of land, traditions, and the natural and human features of our environment, developing a deeper understanding of our community.

In literacy, through storytelling characters and perspectives were brought to life using wonderful books like Starting School, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, and Pig the Pug

We read lots books written by Pamela Allen because Mrs Pennington LOVES Pamela Allen! Mrs Deiderick came and read us a story, and she also came down and watched us all read a story together. Our reading “Blew her socks off!”

We have been learning our letters and sounds in a super catchy way, practicing phonics week by week and everyone loves the activities during our reading groups.

In maths, the kids have been busy combining and separating numbers, forming groups, and exploring shapes and measurement – discovering that maths is everywhere!

In Science we have been learning how plants grow and even getting hands-on with coding and programming BeeBots – how cool is that? We have flourished with music and dance inspired by cultural stories and moves, while in PDH and PE, we focused on building strong friendships, personal strengths, and moving our bodies with lots of running, balancing, and catching.

We are super proud of how the children have embraced our You Can Do It! friends who help us grow confidence, resilience, organisation, persistence, and kindness – key ingredients for success and happiness.

To top it off, our Friday afternoons are filled with joyful play-based learning, where imagination and collaboration help build literacy, maths, science, self-regulation, and friendship skills – all wrapped up with the PAX Good Behaviour Game helping us create a classroom full of peace, productivity, health, and happiness.

Thank you for being part of the first term of this wonderful learning journey – your support at home makes a huge difference. We look forward to more fun and learning next term!

Stage 2 has explored the ‘Planet Zog’ and convinced us that their living thing can now call Planet Zog home.

Use books and trusted websites to research a living thing and complete an

application form for it to live on Planet Zog. Explain your responses.

Application form to live on Planet Zog

Name of applicant:  Rose bush

Do you grow and change?  Yes, rose bushes actively grow, mature, and change throughout their lives and within each season.

Do you need energy?  Yes, rose bushes need significant energy to maintain strong structures, grow, and produce continuous, vibrant blooms. We get it from sunlight and water.

Do you reproduce?  Yes, rose bushes reproduce through seeds (rose hips).

Do you respond to your environment?  Yes, rose bushes respond dynamically to their environment, adapting their growth, flowering, and physiological processes to factors such as light, temperature, water availability, and soil quality.

An interesting fact about me: The oldest rose bush, growing in Germany, is thought to be over 1000 years old.

You have been given the responsibility of choosing five species to start Planet Zog’s first community.  Look at the list of living things and decide which five should be selected. You must make sure that all five  can co-exist.

Some of the animals want to bring rocks to Planet Zog, but they have been rejected because rocks are not living things. Write an appeal to the board of scientists arguing  why rocks should be accepted onto Planet Zog.

Use the words 'if', 'but'  and 'because' in your  appeal.

Stage 3 has created some very entertaining news reports and short movies with the robots they created in class as the main actor! We have many great film makers in our presence. Here are some examples of the short films and news reports,  Robot news reportRobot movie.

It is always lovely to see the library full at lunchtime and providing an opportunity for the kids to draw, play chess and read.

Have a safe and relaxing holiday full of chocolate from the Easter Bunny.
