Assistant Principal's Message

Billy Barnes - Assistant Principal P-6

Dear Kyabram P-12 College Families,

As we move further into Term 1, it has been wonderful to see our students engaging in a variety of learning experiences and school activities that support their development both inside and outside the classroom.

P-6 Learn to Swim Program - Our Prep to Year 6 students have recently completed their Learn to Swim program, which was run over three weeks. Each learning community participated at different times, allowing students to develop water confidence and essential swimming skills. This program is a vital part of our curriculum, helping students understand water safety while building their swimming abilities. Thank you to our staff for their efforts in organising and supporting this valuable initiative.

Carlton Football Club Visit - Our Year 5/6 Learning Community was fortunate to have members of the Carlton Football Club visit in Weeks 2 and 4 of this term. These sessions focused on the importance of values and living as a respectful community. Elite athletes spend a significant amount of time developing individual values, and it was great for our students to hear how these principles can be applied both in sport and in everyday life. The sessions were interactive and engaging, and we extend our thanks to Mr. Mellington for organising this fantastic opportunity for our students.

Year 3/4 Disco - In Week 4, our Year 3/4 students enjoyed a fun-filled disco, providing them with another great opportunity to build peer relationships and engage with their school environment outside of classroom hours. It was fantastic to see so many students having a great time together. A big thank you to Ms. Souter for organising this event and to everyone who helped make it a success.

Landscaping and New Building Names - We are excited to share that Stage 1 of our landscaping around the new buildings is now complete! It has been a long wait, but we can now enjoy the benefits of lush green grassed areas, new trees, and garden beds that enhance our school environment.

Additionally, you will notice new building names being displayed across the College. This week, our Administration Building will be officially named ‘Dungala.’ Each building will soon have a name with historical significance, as part of the work being completed by our Communications Committee. We look forward to sharing more about these names in the coming weeks.

Parent/Student/Teacher Interviews - Thank you to all families who have participated in our Parent/Student/Teacher Interviews on Thursday, 6 March (4:00pm – 6:30pm) and Friday, 7 March (9:00am – 1:00pm). These interviews play a crucial role in strengthening the partnership between school and home, ensuring that we are working together to support each child’s learning journey.

Upcoming Events - Looking ahead, we have several exciting events taking place this term: -

  • NAPLAN: The NAPLAN window opens on Wednesday, 12 March. Information has been sent out, and our teachers and students have been preparing for this assessment period.
  • School Photos: Years 7-12 on Friday, 14 March, and Prep-Year 6 on Monday, 24 March.
  • National Ride to School Day: On Friday, 21 March, students, teachers, and families are encouraged to be physically active and safely travel to school. We will be meeting at the Fauna Park in the morning to walk, ride, or scoot to school together. Information about this event has already been shared with families.

Policy Updates: We have recently updated our Anaphylaxis and Asthma policies for our community. Please take the time to review these important documents.

Thank you for your ongoing support in making Kyabram P-12 College a great place for learning and growth.
