Extra special greeting to our new preps and their families! There were many smiles and a few tears from both students and parents as the children got to know their new classmates, teachers, and the environment they’ll be learning in.
The first few weeks have been all about helping the children settle in and adjust to school life by teaching them classroom routines. During this time, the Starting Right program has been running to establish expectations and help the children get comfortable being back at school. With a combination of fun social activities and focused lessons on becoming great readers, writers, and mathematicians, teachers across the campuses have observed a truly positive start to the year.
One of the foundational aspects of our teaching practise is our play-based learning curriculum which we call Investigations. The students have thoroughly enjoyed participating in this developmental curriculum, which fosters oral language skills, social communication, and learning tailored to individual needs. It’s truly rewarding to witness students collaborating with peers and acquiring new skills! Students have loved engaging in this investigation time, and it’s inspiring to see how engrossed our students are in these activities across all campuses. Each student is offered a variety of key learning areas (stations) to explore.
A visitor observing the investigation sessions will notice a vibrant atmosphere filled with movement, focus, enjoyment, and meaningful interactions between students and staff. It’s an exciting, dynamic environment that the students clearly love. At the end of each session, the class comes together to share and reflect on their experiences and discoveries.
“I like to play in Investigations. I like playing with the blocks and building ramps. I put a ball on the ramp and roll it along.”
Kenley Nguyen Yr2
“I love collage because we get to use all different things to make a picture.”
Isabella Fedley Yr 2
“I like dramatic play. We get to be a cook and serve customers. I like making healthy food for them.”
Benjamin Machumbe Yr 2
Bravehearts has been schedule for the 1/2 ‘s at the start of Term 1 with some Campuses already engaging with this program that teaches the students about personal safety and safe touch. Ditto has been busy sharing knowledge about how we keep ourselves safe and he did a good job based on the following students’ reflection:
“I liked the songs about keeping us safe”
Samuel Sein Yr2
“I learnt about my safety and it’s ok to say ‘no’ if you feel unsafe”
Nyagoa Duol Yang Yr2
“I liked singing about the body song. If I feel unsafe, I could tell 5 people that I trust”
Taliah Martin Yr1
“The 5 finger friends are the people you trust. They can help when I need help”
Edgar Fountain Yr1
Ditto will be back later in the year to share these lessons with the foundation students as well.
This term our Preps will look forward to participating in a session at the YMCA gymnasium and our 1/2's will head off to Geelong Ninja. Both excursions have been focused around physical health and our growing bodies.
Further information will be sent through Xuno closer to the dates but we can’t wait to head off for our first excursion of the year!

Research consistently highlights that regular school attendance is key to student success. As we begin 2025, our college is focused on encouraging students and families to prioritise daily attendance and fully engage in their learning.
Each missed day affects progress, with the impact growing over time. Teaching children early on the value of showing up and committing to their education helps develop a positive attitude that promotes academic success, career growth, and long-term benefits in adulthood.
