Grade 3/4 Unit Update

It has been a fantastic start for our Grade 3/4 students, with many excited to be stepping up into the Grade 3/4 team. We are enjoying watching them grow in confidence as they embrace new challenges, build independence, and take on leadership responsibilities within the classroom. It has been wonderful to see the students' developing friendships across the year levels and supporting each other in their learning.
In Literacy, students have been learning about good-fit books, developing their reading stamina, and establishing our daily fluency pairs routine. Choosing good-fit books helps students engage in reading at an appropriate level, ensuring they build both confidence and comprehension skills. Our fluency pairs routine allows students to practise reading aloud with a partner, focusing on expression, accuracy and stamina.
In Maths, we have been playing a variety of warm-up games to strengthen our mental maths strategies. We have also been investigating place value by saying, writing, and ordering numbers in different ways. To extend our thinking, we have been exploring open-ended maths investigations, where we think critically, justify our reasoning, and find multiple solutions to problems.
We asked some of our Grade 3/4 students to share what they enjoy most about being part of the Dana Street Grade 3/4 team.
Glen – “I love the new learning.”
Sam – “I love writing persuasive”
Yura – “I love making new friends”
Hugo – “I enjoy all the fun Maths activities”
