Ryan’s Rambling

Dear Families,
Week Three is now complete and we have well and truly settled into learning routines here at Dana Street.
A particular highlight of this week, which may very well become the highlight of the year for some, was our School Camp, to Wyuna in Queenscliff. Over the course of the three days, our student enjoyed a plethora of adventure activities, some of which many of them had never experienced before. Boogey Boarding was a particular favourite, with beach games, a coastal bike ride, treasure hunt, a visit to the Marine Discovery Centre, and canoeing making up some of these activities. The weather was warm, but the wind was not problematic for us, which was most fortuitous. I am sure that our students (and teachers!) will enjoy a well-earned rest this weekend. I would like to mention that we had both Millie and Michael Poulton also attend camp, both of whom, were incredibly supportive of our staff and students throughout the three days.
On Friday of last week, our Student Leaders met for Day One of their Leadership Training. Over the course of the day, Miss Kylie and I enjoyed sharing in the journey of Leadership and how we can best lead our wonderful school in 2025. Our Student Leaders will play a key role in assemblies and major calendar events across the year.
Late last week I received a phone call from the Department of Education’s Central Highlands Executive Director. When I took the phone call, I was asked to consider whether Dana Street would be happy to meet with our South Western Region Executive Team to discuss our Literacy program. This was an incredible endorsement to the hard work and dedication of our staff over the last few years. So, with a little nervous trepidation, we agreed to host the group, which included the current Acting Regional Director. This delegation were soundly impressed by our staff and students and commented on how well they engaged in the learning process. It was also a great opportunity to reflect on our successful Reading results from last year.
I just wanted to remind everyone that all schools in the state of Victoria are under the Ministerial Mobile Phone Policy. Students must hand in their mobile phone to the office every morning, where it will be securely kept until collection at the end of the school day. This includes smart watches that can access cellular reception and are able to make phone calls or send messages. A copy of the policy is on our school website. Thank you for your understanding.
As I understand it, this weekend is set to be a bit of a shock in terms of weather. Regardless, I am hopeful that you can make time to spend with those who matter most.
Have a great weekend 😊
Ryan
