2025
Welcome to the 2025 school year! In Foundation we are having so much getting into the swing of things with each other. From learning routines, to playing fun games and getting to know each other. It has been a blast so far!
First Day of School
This week, we welcomed our new Foundation students to St Patrick’s! It was a day filled with smiles, excitement, and new friendships. From exploring their classrooms to enjoying fun activities, our youngest learners settled in beautifully. Over the course of the day, we participated in lots of crafts, story time and even a dance party. The students only had positive things to say about their first day of school. What a success! We can’t wait to watch them grow and thrive this year!
Foundation Students begin InitiaLit!
Our Foundation students have embarked on their exciting literacy journey with InitiaLit! This week, they explored key early literacy concepts, including ‘What is a word?’, ‘Written words’, and ‘Rhyme.’ Through engaging activities, they are developing essential skills to support their reading and writing. A highlight of the week was their storybook lesson featuring How to Catch a Star, which sparked curiosity, creativity, and rich discussions. The students loved sharing their thoughts and making connections to the story. We look forward to watching their confidence and skills grow as they continue their literacy learning throughout the year!
Exploring Patterns!
Our Foundation students have begun their maths topic on patterns, exploring two-part and three-part patterns. They are learning to continue patterns and identify the unit of repeat through hands-on activities. It’s wonderful to see their excitement as they discover patterns in the world around them!
Inquiry - Geography
Our Foundation students have started their Geography Inquiry by exploring big questions like What are places like?, How can we care for them?, What are seasons?, and What are natural and constructed features of places? They drew their ideas, which are now displayed in our classroom, ready to grow throughout the term!
Our Precious People
Our Foundation students have started their new Religion topic, We Can Talk to God. In our first lesson, they identified special people in their lives, including parents, friends, and Jesus. They expressed their thoughts through drawings, which are now proudly displayed in our classroom. A beautiful start to their faith journey!
A Fantastic Start to the Year in F/1!
The new school year is off to an exciting start in F/1! Our students have settled in beautifully, making new friends, learning routines and beginning their journey as confident and curious learners.
For our Foundation students, the first day of school was filled with excitement and big smiles. They explored their new classroom and enjoyed fun activities to help them feel at home in their learning space.
To support our new Foundations as they settle in, each student has been paired with a Grade 1 class buddy. Our Grade 1 students have done a wonderful job of being role models and helping their younger peers with daily routines, playing together at recess and lunchtime and making sure everyone feels included and supported. This has helped build friendships and create a caring classroom community.
We have also begun our InitiaLit program which lays the foundation for strong literacy skills. Our first lessons focused on understanding what words are and counting the number of words in a sentence. To make this concept fun and hands-on, we used a caterpillar’s body to help us count! The students have also enjoyed playing with rhyming words, listening for words that sound the same and creating their own rhyming pairs.
In our Numeracy Ochre lessons, we have been learning about patterns. The students have explored different types of patterns, identifying them in everyday life and creating their own using movements, shapes and objects. This has been a fantastic way to build early mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills.
It has been a wonderful start to the year, and we are so proud of how well the students have embraced their learning. We look forward to many more exciting experiences ahead!

In Grade 4, we have been getting to know more about each by sharing interests and identifying describing words to highlight all of our different personalities. There was certainly a buzz in the classroom, as each of the students also shared what they are looking forward to in 2025 and why.
We are looking forward to:
The Grade 5/6 students have hit the ground running in 2025, embracing the Magnify approach in both English and Maths with enthusiasm and determination.
In English, we have begun exploring War Horse by Michael Morpurgo, delving into the story of Joey, the courageous horse, and his devoted owner, Albert. Our writing focus has been on appositives—adding extra details to our sentences to improve clarity and depth. The students have been experimenting with this technique in their own writing, learning how it enhances the reader’s understanding. We have also started planning our own animal-based stories, developing unique characters and settings that will bring our narratives to life.
In Maths, we have been diving into plot graphs, learning how to read and interpret data accurately. A key focus has been understanding that markers on a plot graph can represent different values, and we’ve explored the importance of correctly labelling graphs to ensure clarity. The students are becoming confident in analysing and presenting data—a crucial skill for real-world problem-solving.
Our Grade 6 students have been excitedly wearing their new tops, which they proudly designed themselves. Meanwhile, the Grade 6 boys had an incredible time at Boys to the Bush, an experience that will continue to provide them with unique opportunities to learn and grow in the coming weeks. We can’t wait to hear more about their adventures!
Despite the warm weather, we have settled comfortably into our new classroom, making it our own space for learning and collaboration. The students are also eager to step into their leadership roles, with nominations for student leadership positions underway. We are looking forward to seeing them take on new responsibilities and make a positive impact across the school.
The class has had an amazing start to the year, showing dedication, teamwork, and a fantastic attitude toward learning. They should be incredibly proud of their efforts so far—well done, Grade 5/6!
