Home Reading is Back!

The school year is in full swing and all students have now received their new reader diaries, ready to dive into home reading! Classes have started choosing books to place in their green reader bags, getting everyone back into the routine of regular reading.

Classroom teachers will again be available outside on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:30 to 9:00 am. This provides all students with the chance to read with an adult at school twice a week. Teachers will be on hand to complete reader diaries and we warmly welcome any parents who’d like to join in and listen to our wonderful students read!

Morning reading continues to be a fantastic opportunity for students, but nightly reading at home remains just as important. Regular reading at home has countless benefits.

The Power of Reading at Home

How Nightly Reading Transforms Learning!

Did you know?

The amount of time a student spends reading each day has a HUGE impact on their academic success!

Why Does This Matter?

**Increased Vocabulary: The more words students encounter, the stronger their language skills become.

**Better Comprehension: Exposure to different texts helps develop critical thinking and understanding.

**Higher Achievement: Studies show students who read regularly score in the 90th percentile on standardized tests!

** Tip for Parents: Just 20 minutes a day makes a world of difference! Encourage nightly reading and help build a lifelong love of books.

When supporting your child’s reading at home, don’t forget to log their progress in their reader diary. This not only helps them earn a reading certificate at our whole-school assemblies but also allows teachers to track whether reading is happening consistently at home as well as at school. Reading together at home is a fantastic way to be part of your child’s learning journey. Here are some simple tips to make the most of home reading:

** Create a positive and relaxed reading environment

** Be patient and offer encouragement

** Ask questions about the story to build comprehension

 **Celebrate progress and effort!

Tracking Reading Nights & Certificates

Every second week, classroom teachers will collect and tally up reading nights recorded in the diaries. Students will earn a reading certificate for reaching key milestones: 25, 50, 75, 100, 150, and 200 nights!

Green Reader Bags – A Daily Essential!

It’s important for students to bring their green reader bag to school every day as they will partake in reading throughout the classroom, change their books, get their reading nights counted and put important notes/correspondence that needs to go home in it.

Fostering a love of reading has an incredible impact on a child’s cognitive, emotional, and social development. It sets them up for a lifetime of curiosity, learning, and personal growth. Thank you for supporting our students to become confident and enthusiastic readers!
