"Be strong and courageous,
for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."(Joshua 1:9)
In Week 8, I had the privilege of spending three days with our graduating cohort during their final retreat, a deeply meaningful experience for all. The theme, "Courage," was explored through its biblical roots, its application in everyday life, and the neuroscience of fear and bravery. As the students reflected on their journey at Brigidine, they were encouraged to foster a courageous heart as they prepare to step into the next chapter of their lives.
I extend my heartfelt thanks to the Year 12 students for their incredible spirit, vulnerability, and openness throughout the three days. Their embodiment of the retreat's theme—‘Be strong and courageous’—was evident in their willingness to step outside their comfort zones, care for one another, and engage with their peers.
This transformative experience would not have been possible without the dedication of our exceptional team of teachers, who, despite the busyness of the term, recognised the profound importance of the Year 12 retreat. Their commitment ensured that our students had a space to reflect, connect, and grow as they prepare for the future ahead.
Our Year 12 students have reached a pivotal moment in their journey, standing on the threshold of a new chapter as they graduate from the College. The Year 12 Graduation Mass is a cherished tradition that holds deep significance within our school's history and culture, representing the culmination of six years of learning, personal growth, and dedication.
For the past six years, these students have been shaped by the Charism of St Brigid, embracing the values of compassion, courage, hope, service, and justice. As they embark on their new and exciting journeys beyond Brigidine, we call upon St Brigid to continue guiding them, encouraging them to live these values in their daily lives and to be a light in the world.
During the Mass, our graduating class received two meaningful symbols of faith:
Angel Pin – A reminder that angels, as God’s messengers, offer hope and guidance throughout life’s journey.
Candle – Light, one of the most sacred symbols in Christianity, represents the enduring flame of faith. This light has been entrusted to our students, a beacon of hope and truth that they carry forward as they navigate the future.
The Graduation Mass was a powerful moment of reflection and celebration, honouring the past six years while lighting the way for the journey ahead. May our graduates continue to shine brightly as they step into the world, guided by faith and the legacy of St Brigid.
Yesterday, 29 students, accompanied by three staff members, embarked on a two-week Immersion trip to Cambodia. This life-changing experience is an opportunity for our students to engage in meaningful service, deepen their understanding of global issues, and live out the values of compassion, justice, and solidarity.
During the trip, they will work alongside local communities, learning about Cambodian culture while contributing to various outreach initiatives.
We wish them all the best as they represent our College, carrying the spirit of St Brigid with them on this incredible journey. We cannot wait to share more with you as they journey through Cambodia.
Term 4, Week 2
Wednesday 23 October
The Archdiocesan Religious Education Test is conducted annually for all students across Sydney Catholic Schools in Years 8 and 10.
The test gauges student knowledge across the five strands taught in their respective Stages.
Preparation for this test commenced early last term. For further understanding of the requirements of this test, I have linked the presentation shown to students at the start of Term 3.
In December, at our Presentation Day Ceremonies, we recognise outstanding student achievement in the Archdiocesan test, celebrating the students who achieve a High Distinction and place in the top 10% of all candidates across the state.
Further information regarding the test will be sent to parents and guardians at the commencement of Term 4.
