Sports Round-Up

Compiled by Mrs Currey

Weekly sport this term has seen students involved in a variety of games including lawn bowls at our local greens. Students’ individual skills and understanding of a range of sports continues to increase as they participate regularly in both school sport and PE lessons.

Earlier in Term 3 WWHS teams attended the Netball Schools Cup local day in Narrabri. All teams developed connections between their players and netball knowledge over the day. Both the girls teams went through undefeated and the boys team continued to challenge right until the end. The 7/8 girls team will play in the regional final in Tamworth on Wednesday 25th September.

We had students nominate to play in the regional Waratahs Rugby 7s day in Armidale in combination teams with Warialda, Boggabilla and Armidale Secondary College. All students represented with pride and forged new friendships throughout the region. The U14 boys and girls teams won on the day and this saw them progress into the State finals, which they attended last week in Riverwood. The girls team consisted of Ruby and Lexie and they won three out of their four games, placing them in the top four teams in the state. The boys team consisted of Nate and Dylan and although the boys didn’t get a win, they saw they level of rugby that is played right throughout the state and place in the top eight teams.

In Week 2 students who met qualifying standards attended the North West regional athletics carnival. This event saw the 17 years girls team come 1st and progress to the state carnival. Matilda also received placings of 1st in 200m and 400m as well as 2nd in long jump and discus. She progressed to the NSWCHSSA carnival where due to an injury was unable to compete in all her events.

That is a wrap for representative sport this year. We would like to congratulate all students who nominated and participated in the variety of sports offered via the Knock Out Sport and Individual Sport Representative Pathways. Thank you to staff and parents/carers who ensure the students are given these opportunities by volunteering to coach, manage, transport and support students in attending these events.

Permission notes for Term 4 weekly sport have been distributed to parents/carers via email and in paper form. If you haven’t already completed this form, please do so ASAP. Options allocated to students include swimming, lawn bowls, indoor sports, outdoor sports and net games. We look forward to another great term of sport!
