Learning In My Level

A celebration of what's happening across the school!

YEAR 6

Newsletter Term 4 Week 2

Welcome back to Term 4 from Year 6! We are so excited and thrilled about the upcoming term and all of the exciting things that come with the final term of primary school. We are excited for Graduation, our end of year celebration, carols and everything involved with the wrap up of the year. To kickstart Term 4, the Year 6’s have started Life Education and learning all about the Birds and the Bees.

In Writing, we have begun the term with speech making for our upcoming speech competition. Students are preparing a speech on the topic “How I See My Future.” It has been wonderful seeing the exciting and various things the students see for themselves in the future and areas they want to have an impact. The students will present their speech to their class and then 1 person will be nominated from each class to present to the year level with a chance to go on to an interschool competition. We wish our 6’s the best of luck!

In Reading, all four classes have started reading the novel “How to Tackle your Dreams.” Which follows the journey of a Year 6 boy from Melbourne who enjoys both sewing and AFL. We are enjoying all the learning and analysing that comes with a class novel.

Our Inquiry focus for Term 4 is science. Each week the students will focus on a different science experiment and write a full science report, discussing their aim, materials, hypothesis and method. This week we are looking at the effects of sugar on teeth. The experiment requires us to place egg shells (which have the same properties as teeth) in bowls with different liquids such as soft drink, vinegar, tea and juice. We look forward to seeing some whacky experiments over the term!

In Week 1, The whole 5/6 cohort took the train to Eastland Hoyts to watch “The Wild Robot” movie. It was emotional and beautiful to say the least. What an amazing film. In Term 1, both cohorts read the novel and analysed its heart-warming themes of connection and friendship. The movie adaptation was great to see and very comfy on the Hoyts recliners.

We are so excited for the roller coaster of Term 4 and our cohorts’ final term in Primary School.
