Principal's Report
Flexible. Resilient. Positive. 2024
Welcome back to Term 4. Our year is moving so fast and we are excited for the Term ahead!
Our Principal Marika Ferguson is currently on leave, returning on the day of our Oktoberfest Fair. We look forward to seeing her on the day.
On our final day of Term 3, we celebrated our annual Billy Cart and Footy Colours Day, and what a day it was! Our staff started the day with a delicious healthy breakfast in preparation for our big day.
As always, the day was beautifully organised and run. A huge thank you to Mr Sommers for his organisation and our incredible staff who adore supporting our students on our special event days. Thank you to again Noel Jones Mitcham for the coffee cart and all of our families that attended on the day.
We are so excited! The Rangeview Oktoberfest Fair is this Sunday 20th October at the school from 12.00pm - 5.00pm. Our incredible Parents and Friends Committee have been working non-stop organising what will be a fabulous day for all. Thank you to Noel Jones Mitcham for being our major sponsor of the event.
There will so much to do on the day including carnival rides, a silent disco, arts and crafts, market stalls (including our senior school student stalls), a petting zoo, sports clinics (basketball, martial arts, netball, cricket, soccer and football), music performances, circus school, German beer garden, temporary tattoos, dunk-a-teacher and of course a range of fabulous food and drinks!
Make sure you get tickets for the raffle. There are so many prizes 40+ to be won including a $1000 BIG4 Voucher.
Volunteers would be greatly appreciated. The QR code to sign up is below and also available at the school office.
We can't wait to see you on the day!
Parents and carers of every child enrolled in a Victorian government school in 2025 will receive the one-off School Saving Bonus $400 support. The $400 School Saving Bonus provides families with support for education-related costs, such as school activities and/or school uniforms and textbooks.
Actions for parents and carers
Before 18 October 2024, the Department of Education is asking parents and carers to:
In the coming months, the Department of Education will send you 2 email communications for each of your children enrolled in Victorian government schools.
The 2 emails from the Department of Education will:
1. Confirm your email address between mid-October and late-November.
2. Provide you with your unique $400 School Saving Bonus code by the end of November.
If you do not receive a confirmation email from the department by late-November, please check your spam or junk folders.
You can read more about the School Saving Bonus on the Department of Education website School Saving Bonus | vic.gov.au (www.vic.gov.au), with key information now available in 14 different languages.
Rangeview will be holding two pupil free Curriculum Days in Term 4. The first is Monday 4th November - this is preceding the Melbourne Cup Public Holiday, and the second is Tuesday 26th November. Our staff will be attending professional learning on the new Victorian Curriculum 2.0, the Disability Inclusion Model, and our annual First Aid and Anaphylaxis training.
Our Before and After School Care provider TheirCare will be open for any families that require care on either of these days.
We will be building our 2025 grades in the coming weeks. As always, we will be taking great care to ensure that the classes are well balanced, and all students have the best opportunity to be engaged and learn.
Our teachers and education support staff put considerable thought into the placement of students into grades and many factors are taken into account. We will be asking your child to list five friends that they would choose to be in a class with. We will work to ensure they have at least one of their five. We re-enforce with students that although it is ideal to have a friend in the class with them, they can always see friends at play times and that class time is for learning.
If you have a particular parent request around a friendship or a separation for your child, please forward this in writing to the Assistant Principal Kate McLeod at by Wednesday 6th November, 2024. We cannot take requests after this date. We can only consider one request and cannot consider requests for a particular teacher.
We will not be revisiting historical parent requests from previous years. You will need to make this request again.
As this is a complex process, with many factors taken into account (including other parent requests) we cannot guarantee that all parent requests can be accommodated.
We thank you for your support and we are confident we will create positive, well-balanced classes for 2025.
Working With Children Checks (WWCC) are required by law for people who engage in child-related work (where paid or voluntary). At Rangeview we have many events including reading with students, incursions, excursions, swimming, camps and sleepovers, where parent helpers require the WWCC. If you have volunteered to assist with school activities, please bring your WWCC to the school office to be copied. To apply for a WWCC please go to https://service.vic.gov.au/services/working-with-children . The application takes about 15 minutes and for volunteer work there is no cost and can take between 3-12 weeks to receive.
A reminder that student bikes need to be stored at the bike shed each day and not left in other locations around the school. Do not ride your bike on the school grounds, hop off and walk as we want to keep everyone safe.
Often families will ride to school together. We recommend walking your parent, carer and sibling bikes into the school and keeping them with you. Please do not leave them at the school gate or around the school as we are unable to guarantee their security.
