Weekend Rec Activities

Kambala Boarders' Outing – Sunday 15th September

Despite the wild winds forcing the cancellation of the Watson’s Bay Spring Markets, the Kambala Boarders made the most of their Sunday by heading to Bondi Junction for some warm indoor shopping. The girls enjoyed a relaxed day exploring the shops, escaping the blustery weather while still enjoying each other's company.

With a wide range of stores to browse, the outing turned into a fun and cozy shopping experience, allowing everyone to pick up a few treats or simply window shop. It was a great way to spend the day, and the girls certainly made the best of the unexpected change in plans!

In good news, the Spring Markets have been rescheduled for October, so hopefully the Kambala Boarders will enjoy this Sunday outing on a lovely sunny spring day in Term 4.

Kambala Boarders Bike Riding in Centennial Park

On Sunday, the Kambala Boarders’ embarked on a fun and active outing to Centennial Park. The girls set off for the park, ready for a day of adventure. Upon arrival, they hired bikes and helmets and set off to explore the beautiful surroundings.

Riding along the park's scenic paths, the girls enjoyed the fresh air and picturesque views. They explored many tracks passing the lakes, beautiful duck pond, lush fields, gardens, cafes and plenty of greenery. It was a great way to unwind, get active, and spend time with friends. The bike ride was a highlight of the weekend for those that attended.

The sunshine, blue skies and spring weather certainly made for a lovely Sunday outing. Following their active adventures the girls were rewarded with a smoothie or acai bowl of their choice from the famous ‘Bondi Fruitologist’. This was a refreshing way to end the outing as they relaxed and enjoyed a healthy treat in the sunshine.

Saturday Sport

Emily and Eva won the grand final with the Kambala 7 club netball team. The girls started the game so well and quickly took the lead in the first half. STC came out firing in the second half and were able to catch up to our girls. In the last quarter Kambala 7 players dug deep and held their nerve, blocking out the sounds of the STC supporters. With just seconds left to go and only one goal difference, our defenders were able to get another intercept and keep control of the ball until the final siren sounded. Kambala  won the game 16-15!

Hockey - The girls played an amazing grand final game, with the final marking Hayley (Yr 12) last as we said goodbye to our Year 12’s. Although they didn’t win the match, the girls enjoyed playing together and reflected on all they achieved to get to the grand finals this year.

Boarding Developments and Upgrades

Several of our Year 8 and 9 students have tested the furniture in our prototype rooms with an overnight stay and have given us feedback as the final step prior to placing orders.

The basement of Fernbank will begin its refreshment with initial works taking place over the upcoming school holidays when the building is unoccupied. The remainder of the work will start on Monday 2 December. The Year 10 and 11 students will move to Tivoli House from the end of November to enable the builders time to complete the work over the summer holiday.

The work scope will include:

  • Air conditioning in all rooms
  • New carpet in the whole house
  • Creation of an additional bathroom
  • Painting of the whole house
  • New furniture in all three Common Rooms
  • New bedroom furniture in many rooms

We will keep you updated as work progresses.

Events

Lillian (Year 9) went away for the National Interschools Snowsports competition last week representing Kambala in multiple events throughout the week. Lilli participated in the team events Cross country Classic and relay as well as ranked 20th Nationally in the individual SlopeStyle event adding to Kambala’s overall score of 7th place! Well done Lilli!

Over the Weekend Year 9 took advantage of the beautiful weather and conducted a study group on the Year 9 Balcony. With exams and assignment deadlines quickly approaching, this was a nice change of pace and scenery for the girls to make the most of!

Fernbank Fun

On Monday 17 September our current Year 12 students attended their last Boarding Formal Dinner. This was an opportunity for both Boarding Houses and many of the senior staff at school to join together and pay tribute to the contributions made by this fantastic group of young women. Ava and Hillary (Yr 11)  delivered a heartfelt speech acknowledging the strengths in each of the Year 12 Boarding students and shared stories of how they have impacted those around them in a positive way. It was an emotional night, one of joy, in that we have shared a home with such outstanding individuals and one of sorrow that it is the end of an era for the 2024 cohort and excitement for the next phase of their life. On behalf of the departing girls, Kailani and Audrey shared the journey they have been on since Year 7 and thanked the people who have contributed to them over the past six years. The photo slideshow caused much laughter and brought back lots of really special memories.

The dinner was the first in a series of events planned over the end of term for the Year 12 girls, and we  look forward to watching and supporting them through until the end of their final exams.

Prep

In Week 8, the Year 11 girls doing the HSC started their preliminary exams and have been working extremely hard. The common room during Prep has been the main study hub where the girls have been filling up the whiteboards with notes, working independently, in study groups and with tutor Julia from A Team Tutoring.

The Year 9 students have been working hard in preparation for their Maths and English end of term assessment and are busy completing a variety of assignments across their elective subjects.
