Principal's Message

Mr Tom Bagnall

This term is nearing the end already, and it will be great to see everyone finish on a high with an Assembly presented by the Kookaburras class on Friday 20 September, before everyone gets a much-needed break over the school holidays!

At the end of next week, I’ll be leaving Marangaroo PS and returning to my substantive position elsewhere. I can honestly say that it has been a pleasure getting to know the students, families and staff at Marangaroo PS, and as previously mentioned, this decision was made with what is best for both the school and my personal situation in mind. Hopefully, I’ll get a chance to see families between now and the end of next week, but if not, I wish you all the best and would like to say thank you for the way in which you have worked with the school this year!

Principal Position Update

I am pleased to advise that the Department of Education has completed the recruitment process for the Principal position, and have appointed Mr Adam Beilken as the new Principal of Marangaroo PS. This appointment has been made permanently and as such, there is no set end date on his time here, which will be fantastic for the school moving forward!

Adam has previously been at Westfield Park PS and is looking forward to joining the school; he will be out to visit this term and complete handover, as well as having a look around so if you see him, please make him feel welcome!

Adam will send home a formal introduction early next term, so please keep an eye out for this.

Open Night and Book Fair

Just a reminder that we are looking forward to seeing as many people as possible at our Open Evening tonight. From 4pm to 6pm, classrooms will be open for you to look through work and see what other classrooms are up to as well.

Students will have a small ‘passport’ with them to encourage them to visit different parts of the school; completing this will earn them 5 faction tokens towards our next PBS reward – 15 minutes of extra lunchtime play!

If you make it here this evening, please remember to visit Mrs Preston in the Library where she has our Scholastic Book Fair set up; today is the last day to order!

Illness at school

The last few weeks have hit hard with a lot of our students coming down with illnesses and having some time at home to rest; if your child does become unwell, please keep them home where possible to give them time to recover. This is especially relevant where students are vomiting or have symptoms consistent with gastroenteritis, they are required to be clear of all vomiting and/or diarrhea for 24 hours before being able to return to school.

At times, we may be notified of an illness that is classed as notifiable by WA Health that families may need to monitor for. In these situations, information is sent home regarding any possible symptoms, as well as possible periods that students may need to stay away from school.

In addition to this, there may be times that school staff contact families to request students be collected if they are unwell; please be assured that if this occurs, students have been monitored for a period of time to see if they are genuinely unwell and we ask for your understanding and assistance if this occurs. Any absences due to illness are classified as acceptable if the school is notified, so don't worry that this will negatively impact your child.

2025 Planning

Planning for 2025 is well underway and we are currently working through the expected enrolments. As part of this, we are asking any families that are likely to be leaving Marangaroo PS at the end of this year to let us know as soon as possible. Early planning around this will allow us to recruit teachers and identify the most suitable classroom structure for next year, and hopefully mean that families and students can be notified earlier of class placements.

If you have any questions around this, please contact the office.

Upcoming Dates – Term 3

A few dates to be aware of over the coming weeks are:

(Tonight) 11 September – Open Night and Book Fa

13 September – Interschool Athletics (selected students only)

20 September – Kookaburras Assembly / Last day of Term 3

7 October – School Development Day - No students attend

8 October – Students return for Term 4

I hope that everyone has a fantastic end to the term, and as always, please feel free to come in and speak with me if you have any questions or concerns.
