Fantastic 3/4
Term 4 Week 2 2024
What have we been up to?
It's been a busy start to the term for our Year 3/4 students! One of the highlights was their first-ever school camp, and we couldn’t be prouder of the resilience and respect they demonstrated throughout their time at Woorabinda. The camp is known for being student-led, which gave every student the chance to explore their own interests. The students also took great pride in their responsibilities, excelling during their duty groups at breakfast and dinner.
In Reading, students delved into the origins of the prefix "inter" and continued to visit the library, where they engaged with a growing variety of literature. They’ve also been focusing on improving their reading comprehension by working with short passages and answering both literal and inferential questions about the texts.
In Writing, students have been studying the book Tilly to deepen their understanding of narrative structure. They’ve examined the author's vocabulary choices and discussed what they believe the author's purpose was in using those particular words. The students also explored different types of narrative writing, discussing what makes a story captivating and what keeps readers engaged. Over the next few weeks, we’re excited to see them create their own interesting and imaginative stories.
In Maths, students are continuing to build their understanding of measurement, including length, area, capacity, and volume. This week, they focused on angles, investigating the different types and the degrees associated with each. Next week, they'll be exploring mass and capacity in more detail.
This term in science, students will learn about different types of forces, including electrostatics and magnetism, and explore their properties. They will investigate the relationship between force and the speed of an object, as well as how friction affects moving objects. The curriculum also integrates the perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, examining forces in traditional sports and games. Additionally, students will explore the forces involved in actions like throwing, dropping, bouncing, and rolling, gaining a broader understanding of physical sciences.
It's been a fantastic start, and we look forward to seeing even more growth and learning in the weeks ahead!
