Raising Aspirations in Careers and Education
Years 7-10 students from Edenhope College together with students from Goroke and Nhill participated in the CQUniversity’s RACE (Raising Aspirations in Careers and Education) Victoria program on Monday 2nd September at Edenhope College.
Presenters Lilly and Grace came from the Queensland University to run short hands on learning activities aligned to the Victorian STEM, digital and food technologies curriculums.
Students were shown how digital technology can be applied in the food and fibre industries. They also learnt about different career opportunities in the agricultural industry.
Students split into two groups and completed the honey taste testing activity and then swapped over and worked on programming bots which simulated driverless tractors.
By participating in these activities the students learnt about a range of careers and pathways to professions such as farmers, agronomists, communication specialists, entrepreneurs and business professionals.
The students were given insight into the world of work linked to agriculture.
The students had fun as they were practically involved in collecting data and predicting outcomes and then applying the information collected.
Everything was well organised and the students were motivated and worked enthusiastically to complete the set tasks.
Thank you to all involved.

Experiential Learning – Helping others
The year 7 and 8 experiential learning class has been working hard, giving back to the local community, with a focus on teamwork, cooperation, organisation and building career skills. The group has been busy this term with tree planting, helping behind the scenes at the junior athletics day and visiting Lakeside living in Edenhope.
On August the 15th the students made guards, planted trees and put in dropper posts at a property on De Fredrick’s road. The group worked alongside Sue Close, Cynthia Watt, Bindy Lees and Gloria Freeman who all gave the students high praise for how well they worked on the day.
On the 28th of August the students worked hard to set up and pack up for the Kowree Athletics and helped with activities such as High Jump, timing distance and sprints and helping out with long jump, triple jump, discus and shot put. It was a long day, but the students put in their best and were a big help on the day.
This past week the Year 7 students visited Lakeside Living and ran activities with the residents such as egg pong, quoits, ten pin bowling, darts, reading and jigsaws. The students took to the task really well and it was amazing to see how caring and encouraging they were with the residents. The staff and even some of the residents came up multiple times to say how amazing the group was.
A big thank you to all the students for how hard they have worked over the last few weeks, easing the load, and adding some light to the lives of others.
Science
It’s been a busy term in Science with students learning about topics in Biology and Earth Sciences.
In Yr 9 the students have been learning about body systems, having a fun hands on time with experiments replicating the digestive systems. This week they have been learning about homeostasis by conducting a Homer-stasis experiment where their aim is was to keep their Homer Simpson character alive.
In 2/3/4 the students have been learning about rocks, soils and erosion. They have had fun creating the rock cycle out of chocolate, investigating soil samples and making their own soil to use in plant growth experiments.

Year 8 Adelaide Camp
The year 8 class embarked on an exciting adventure on Tuesday, the 3rd of September, when they set off for camp. Their first day was filled with intrigue and teamwork as they tackled an escape room challenge, they then relaxed and refueled with a delicious pizza dinner.
The second day was packed with even more thrilling activities. The students went ice skating tested their courage and balance on the high ropes course, and engaged in some friendly competition with gel blast games. To top off the day, they indulged in a three-hour shopping spree, exploring various stores and perhaps picking up a few souvenirs or treats.
On the final day of camp, they enjoyed a day out at the water park. They also enjoyed an all-you-can-eat-buffet and movie to finalise the end to their big trip.
