At St John’s Primary School, we believe every child deserves to be challenged and supported in their learning, and we’re excited to see our young mathematicians flourish through our Maths Accelerated Program.
The program is designed specifically for students who excel in mathematics and are working two or more years above their current year level. This program aims to provide an enriched and challenging environment for students who demonstrate exceptional mathematical ability, allowing them to advance at a pace that matches their talents.

In 2024, 21 students from years 4 & 5 were selected to participate in the Accelerated program. The team met with the Maths leader on Monday afternoon for problem solving coaching sessions and extension skills based on their needs from their pre-assessment.
On the 21st of August the group sat a maths challenge online through ICAS (International Competitions and Assessments for Schools). ICAS gives students a platform to compete academically in a similar way to sports, with their achievements recognised with certificates.
I am pleased to share with our community that 15 of our students achieved a Credit Award and 5 students achieved a Merit Award and one a Participation Award. Credit awards are given to students who achieved within the top 25%. Our school performance in the competition compared to other schools across Australia wide are shown below where the blue whisker box represents our school:
This program is just one of the many ways we are committed to nurturing the talents of all our students and ensuring their growth as future leaders and thinkers.
