Night of Music - Saturday 7th September

Trivia Night - Saturday 26th October

Welcome to Ivanhoe Primary School

We've experienced a week of typical Melbourne weather. From wild winds, hail and thunder storms to sunny afternoons and driving rain.

The weather hasn't put off the family of Tawny Frog Mouth owls from returning to nest in our school grounds though. See if you can spot them in the photos below.

Walk-a-thon

Whilst the wild weather did try to rain on our parade, it didn't dampen the IPS spirit that was so evident during the Walk-a-thon this afternoon.  Students demonstrated so much resilience and persistence by keeping going even though their feet began to ache.

Students walked many, many laps as they happily chatted with friends and had fun. They proudly sported their house colours and did their very best to raise walk-a-thon dollars!

The winners of most laps

Thank you to Biviano & Sons for providing free fruit to our walkers.  It was a real hit!

Thank you to families for your support and thank you to volunteers and teachers.  Mr McKay and Mr Bull (who stepped in to help out) managed to organise yet another spectacular event!

Thank you to Heidlberg Police who came down to lend their support and cheer on our students!

The Walk-a-thon is the major fundraiser this year for the school and whilst it is fabulous for us to get together as a community by walking, volunteering to supervise student walkers and donating prizes and goods, an important part is to be able to raise funds for the benefit of our students.  This year the funds raised will go toward line marking the playground areas for with activities for younger students and also a contribution towards new year 6 laptops.

School Council President Report

School Council met on 4 September 2024. The meeting was opened with an introductory activity facilited by Justine and Mark who had learned the theory behind the essence of play as a powerful wellbeing tool at the Banyule and Nillumbik Principal conference last week.

Some of the matters discussed at the school meeting included:

  • Approval of Year 6 Camp risk assessment.  A huge amount of preparation goes into providing camps and we thank our staff and parent volunteers for their commitment in making these events happen.
  • A deep dive on NAPLAN results.  While our team use multiple assessment tools to support our students, NAPLAN allows us to have consistent data to compare both year after year and against other schools. IPS's continues to achieve strong NAPLAN results and we thank our team for their effort in supporting students across the School.
  • Council began to consider the 2025 calendar including curriculum days and early stage preparation for the IPS Fair in 2025.
  • As you may be aware, the School's strategic plan runs in four year cycles.  The most recent cycle from 2021 - 2024 is drawing to a close.  As we prepare to establish the strategic plan for the next cycle from 2025 to 2028, Council began reflecting on achievements over the previous four years.  As part of this process we would really value parent feedback.  If you have received a request from the school for feedback, we would greatly appreciate your input.

As always, please get in touch if you have any questions about the School Council.

Child safety and wellbeing at Ivanhoe Primary School: information for families and the school community

IPS is committed to providing an environment where students are safe and feel safe.

Our child safety framework  https://www.ivanhoeps.vic.edu.au/child-safeexplains how we support and maintain child safety and wellbeing at IPS. It includes, alongside other policies, our:

  • Child Safety and Wellbeing Policy
  • Child Safety Reporting and Responding Obligations Procedures, and
  • Child Safety Code of Conduct, which outlines acceptable and unacceptable behaviours for all staff and volunteers at our school.

Our students and families are important partners in providing a child safe environment. These regular newsletter reminders are one of the ways we ensure our school community is aware of:

  • our commitment to child safety, and
  • how to provide feedback or raise child safety concerns.

If you have any concerns about child safety at any time, please contact Nick King, Assistant Principal on 94991880. Any child safety complaints or concerns are treated seriously.
