Level 5

Level 5- Week 1 Term 4 2024

At the end of Term 3 the Level 5 students went on an incredible excursion to Bayswater Secondary College. We enthusiastically walked across the trainline, along the creek and were greeted by our fabulous Year 7 volunteer leaders. From there, we were put into groups and treated to the subjects: Food tech, Art, PE and STEM. The activities were engaging, fun and gave us a taste of what it will be like to be a Year 7 student. Our students were beautifully behaved and all the Bayswater Secondary College teachers commented on their manners and positive attitudes. What a fabulous experience!

Reading and Writing

In Reading this term, we have been focusing on an engaging mentor text called ‘Hidden Figures’. It has been wonderful to be part of rich, deep and often passionate discussions about important themes. The book links beautifully to our Inquiry topic of ‘Space and Science’ as we research the solar system and scientific reactions. We have been using thinking routines to understand the text on a deeper level and respectfully challenge each other’s ideas. We are continuing to focus on developing our speaking and listening skills through a daily six minute podcast which has been full of twists, turns, suspense and surprises. In our Writing sessions, students are learning about persuasive texts and the persuasive devices used in advertising. We will be writing our own advertisement for a product using the knowledge that we have learned.

Numeracy

In Maths, we will be revisiting 3D shapes, volume and capacity, probability and the four processes. We will be streaming maths groups to target specific areas of strength and weakness.

Friendology

In Friendology, we have been focused on using the language of friendship to be clear when communicating our feelings and needs to our friends.

Leadership shortlists will be communicated on Friday the 11th October via Google classroom. We encourage discussions around resilience at home for those who are not successful. All applicants should be extremely proud of their efforts.
