Aussie Bird Count
On Thursday the 18th of October, the Green Team participated in the Great Aussie Bird Count. For twenty minutes, we sat out in the front playground and the quadrangle , looking to spot as many birds as we could. In total, we spotted 71 birds, including 41 Noisy Miners, 10 Australian Magpies, and 5 Rainbow Lorikeets.
This data is crucial to the Great Aussie Bird Count, as it helps BirdLife (the organisation that created the Great Aussie Bird Count) find out about the common species that live where people live.
All the data that they receive from the count is vetted by expert ornithologists (someone who studies ornithology, studies all about birds.) Which means they can know which areas are already doing good, and which areas need some extra support.
The Great Aussie Bird Count is really easy to participate in, all you have to do is set aside 20 minutes of your time, and sit in some outdoor area, whether that can be your yard, on a balcony, or at your local park, and simply sit and keep track of all the birds you see, then submit it onto the website linked below. It is a fun and entertaining activity the whole family can enjoy. So make sure to volunteer for next year's Great Aussie Bird Count!

National Recycling Week
Before you recycle - there's much you can do, such as reduce, reuse, repair, regift and more.
However if you need to recycle - there's plenty of options. Do you know all the different things that you can recycle? There's so many options:
- Boroondara Council Recycling Bin
- Boroondara Recycling Depot and recycling at local swimming pool and libraries
- Soft Plastic at Woolies and Boroondara Farmers Market
- Officeworks recycling
- Hard to recycle items at Kew East Community Recycling
Find out more on what else can be recycled via the Recycling Near You website. You could gift them via a local Buy Nothing Group or the Boroondara Hard Rubbish Group
