Auslan
P-2:
As we come to the end of Term 3, it's incredible to see how much our P - 2 cohort has grown in their Auslan skills! They've nearly mastered using short List Buoys to express their preferences and sharing what foods they like. Even more exciting, they're now able to watch their peers sign and translate it into English—what an achievement!
To wrap up the term, the students focused on weather signs, using their non-manual features to show intensity, like "sunny" vs "very sunny"/"windy" vs "very windy."
Wishing all families a fantastic holiday break, and we can’t wait for an amazing Term 4!
Y7:
As we reach the end of Term 3, it’s amazing to reflect on how much our Year 7 students have achieved! They’ve completed their Semester 2 Unit 1 assessment, the "Entity of Legs Challenge," where they demonstrated their understanding of Depicting Signs, List Buoys, and Non-Manual Features—all while filming themselves. What a milestone! Following the assessment, students explored "Lip Reading," gaining a deeper understanding and empathy towards the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. With earmuffs on, they tried to lip-read their peers and discovered just how challenging it is, saying things like, "That’s really hard," "I couldn’t do this 24/7," and "My brain hurts!".
Wishing all families a relaxing holiday, and we look forward to another great term ahead!
Auslan news
On the week of Monday 2 September, we celebrated Indigenous Literacy Day, where Michael and Huon read the book “No Way Yirrikipay”, and Mrs Hession worked alongside translating it.
