Preps

These last two weeks Preps have continued on with finding chords on a ukulele. They have learnt C major and A minor. Transitioning between the two chords is a challenge, some have had a go! Also learning correct strumming technique using a plectrum(Pick). Alot of coordination is required and like the fabulous Willy Kids they are, they are giving their best shot.

Grade 1/2

Students have been warming up with percussion patterns to Thriller and Chicken Banana. They have also had a go at DJ Raphi’s dance to Happy. On the ukulele students have moved on to play Can’t stop the feeling using C and F major and A minor chords.

Grade 3 & 4

Students have started on an activity based around radio advertising. They have been set the task of selecting and researching an Australian Tourist Attraction to create a 30 second radio ad for. Students will need to time their ad, rehearse and record their script.

Grade 5 & 6

Students have started an activity from Musical Wonders on how to write a cartoon theme song. They have been given a selection of ideas for cartoons or can create their own. Students have begun writing lyrics for their song and will set it to a music track and record or perform it when finished.

Grade Prep

Last week we looked at the colour wheel and created one of our own using paint. We used primary colours to create secondary colours and painted the wedges on our colour wheel. This week, the Grade Preps are working on some Christmas trees to sell at the wishing tree stall in December.

Grade 1

The Grade 1’s are continuing to explore primary and secondary colours. This week, we added a focal point to our backgrounds we created last week. The students were given 16 mini squares which they filled with detailed patterns using a black fine liner pen. They then carefully placed them onto the page then glued them down. Some of these are on display in our office foyer gallery.

Seaside Fair

Exciting News!!! There will be a small display of our Term 3 artwork at the Seaside Fair. Please keep an eye out for our mini exhibition containing mostly sea related art pieces in the 5/6 Gallery.

Art Supplies

We are already looking ahead to the 2026 Art Show and need some interesting supplies. If you happen to have any used, ready to throw away paint brushes like the ones in the photo, can you please send them along to the Art Room? If we get enough supplies, we will be creating some fun characters with recycled materials.

Thank you to those who have already dropped some off to the Art Room.

Sport Update

A big well done to our Lacrosse teams who recently competed in the District Tournament! Our teams played with fantastic skill, determination, and teamwork throughout the day, representing Willy Primary with pride. We now look forward to cheering on our teams who have qualified for the State Finals in two weeks’ time — good luck to all involved!

Warm regards,

LOTE - French

Bienvenue a BESANÇON!

In the last 2 weeks, students across all year levels have been exploring my Mum and Dad’s stunning medieval town of Besançon in the North Eastern part of France.

While stepping back in time into the Capital of… yes, Time (!!) and the greenest city in France, many historical and cultural discussions were had. This awoke our Willy Kids’ curiosity and desire to know how people lived some 500 years ago. They were stunned to see French people today living and going about their daily lives within the same streets and walls that, once upon a time, housed armoured knights and kings.

While all year levels explored the town through videos and my personal family photos:

Prep to 2s paid particular attention to ‘la ville verte et la Citadelle’ while representing the town through their own eyes.

Year 3 to 6s conducted their own inquiry research into the town with the clear strategic understanding of its structure with the river Doubs and the highly perched Citadel both acting as protective shields. Students were able to investigate their personal points of interest in the topic to expand on their factual and geographical knowledge of the place.

Learning in such an authentic way, it was a surprising treat to discover that one of our students’ dad actually lived there for over twenty years!
