Catholic Identity & Mission News

On Friday, October 31, St Peter’s College will officially become a FIRE Carrier school! FIRE (Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education) Carriers (students and staff) share a passion for learning about First Nations culture and history. They are committed to sharing this knowledge and promoting Reconciliation within and beyond the school community. A FIRE Carrier promotes respect, fairness and inclusion for First Nations Peoples. What a proud day for the College that we have over 30 inaugural FIRE Carrier student volunteers keen to get this program embedded at St Peter’s.
Soon, our FIRE Carrier Covenant will be available on our website and our College community will be able to see our short, mid and long-term goals to ensure that our students and staff are able to learn, experience and advocate more for First Nations history, culture and achievements. In doing so, they will provide a further reason for hope in what can be a very fractured discourse.
The FIRE Carrier program will enjoy particular leadership from our 2026 Environment and Social Justice Captains. Their leadership, and indeed all of the College Student Executive, will also come to the fore on our upcoming Year 12 Retreats. Our first student meetings were held on Thursday with information, flyers and packing lists distributed. Always my biggest concern is that we have full and correct information about student dietary and medical needs on Operoo so we can best care for them while we’re away. Would parents and carers please doublecheck their child’s Operoo profile to ensure it’s still up to date please? The Cranbourne Campus students will go away first from Wednesday-Friday, November 26-28 while the Clyde North Campus will enjoy Retreat from Monday-Wednesday, December 1-3. Look for more information and reportage to come in future editions of the newsletter, but it’s been great to make a start during this past week!
Finally, as we prepare to celebrate All Saints Day (November 1) and All Souls Day (November 2) on the weekend, staff participated in a professional learning session about the history and meaning of these special days in the Church’s calendar. David Hansen, Deputy Principal – Learning and Teaching, also volunteered to lead staff through a beautiful reflection where they could consider the saints and souls of personal significance to them and pray for them especially.
Over the month of November, students and staff can add the names of their deceased loved ones to the pages of our St Peter’s College Memorial Book that will remain in our Cranbourne Campus Chapel thereafter. Students will have access to pages at Student Reception and via their RE teacher. A mark of respect and solidarity, we unite to remember and pray for all those we love who have gone before us. ALL are welcome to contribute.
Loving God, we trust that those who have died now rest in your love. May perpetual light shine upon them and may they rest in peace.
