Year 5/6 Poetry
In The Flood
As the water rises higher,
So does terror,
So does anxiety.
As the water rises higher,
So does loss,
So does fear.
As the water rises higher,
So does acceptance,
So does generosity.
As the water rises higher,
So does bravery,
So does courage.
As the water rises higher,
So does friendship,
So does hope. by Havana
Maths and Literacy News
Over the last few weeks, students across the school have been taking part in a series of Maths and Literacy assessments. These assessments form an important part of our summative data collection, helping teachers build a clear picture of each child’s progress throughout the year.
The purpose of collecting this data is to:
- Celebrate student learning and acknowledge the growth they have made
- Identify strengths and areas for further support, ensuring every child continues to thrive
- Inform our end-of-year reports, allowing us to provide families with accurate, meaningful information about their child’s learning journey
Guide future planning, so that teaching and learning programs remain responsive and targeted
If you have any questions about our assessment process, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher. We appreciate your ongoing support and look forward to sharing students’ achievements with you in their upcoming reports.

Extension Education & Tournament of Minds Showcase - 18 November
This year, a small group of students from Years 3-6 have been participating in several Extension Education opportunities at St John’s. Each week, withdrawal groups in the areas of Literacy, Maths and Inquiry have been working on projects of their choice that extend their critical and creative thinking skills and provide valuable practice in collaborating and communicating with their peers. This has been vital in building their independence, self confidence and engagement in school activities.
On Tuesday, 18 November, between 2.30pm and 3.20pm, these students will be presenting their amazing work in our Extension Education Showcase.
During this time our Tournament of Minds participants will also share their learning.
Everyone is welcome to come and see what they have produced and learnt. We look forward to seeing you there! Just a reminder to please sign-in at reception if you are planning to attend.
