Teaching & Learning Update

As we move toward the end of the term, there’s a real buzz of learning happening across our classrooms. While teachers are busy gathering assessment information and finalising reports, our commitment to quality teaching and learning remains strong. Rigour, curiosity, and engagement continue to be at the heart of every lesson.

So far this term, each cohort has been focusing on deepening their understanding in key areas, from building strong foundations in literacy and numeracy, to exploring inquiry and critical thinking through rich projects. It’s been wonderful to see students applying their skills with confidence and creativity.

See below for a snapshot of learning at WPS

Prep

Our Prep students have been fully engaged in our Minibeasts Inquiry unit, learning about butterflies, spiders, and ladybugs! They are exploring non-fiction texts, building a scientific word wall, and creating a Minibeast booklet. Students are using their creativity to bring these creatures to life and will soon share their work with the community.

Year 1

Students have been bringing stories to life through Reader’s Theatre. They’ve become actors, narrators, and storytellers, performing shadow puppets, AUSLAN read-alouds, musicals, and claymations. Along the way, they’ve strengthened reading fluency, comprehension, speaking, listening, and teamwork skills, and will soon showcase their performances live.

Year 2

Our Year 2 students have been exploring Sustainability through the 3 R’s – Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. They are learning how everyday choices impact the environment and have been creating Chia Pets from recycled materials while investigating plant growth.

Year 3

Year 3 students have been exploring their passions, identifying topics that excite them and brainstorming ways to share these with others. Presentations could include posters, videos, quizzes, performances, or demonstrations, allowing students to express themselves creatively while developing planning and communication skills.

Year 4

Our Year 4 students have enjoyed connecting through our Kinder Buddies program, mentoring and building friendships at Kirrup Kinder. In Inquiry, they have researched local animals and constructed model habitats, and are now discovering ways to support wildlife right here at school.

Year 5/6

Our Year 6 students are preparing for their transition to high school through a meet and greet with a local secondary school, while Year 5 students are reflecting on leadership in preparation for their senior roles next year. Both groups are exploring how to demonstrate our school values – Be Brilliant, Kind, Curious, and Joy – as they grow into their leadership responsibilities.
