Confimation Reflections

On Thursday the 30th of October, I was confirmed at St Patrick’s Cathedral. The day before, I was really nervous because it was a very big and important thing to do. When I got there, I greeted some friends and teachers and met up with my sponsor. We then made our way into the Cathedral. When I walked in, I had forgotten how huge and grand it was. My favourite spot was the huge stained-glass windows above the door. We made our way to our aisle and waited for about an hour.
We did the usual things at Mass until it was time for us to be confirmed. I stood up with my sponsor and lined up, ready to meet the bishop, Les Tomlinson. When I got up, he put the chrism oil on my forehead and my sponsor handed him the card with all my information. He then blessed me with the Holy Spirit and I made my way back to my seat. It was much easier than I had expected, and I felt really good afterwards.
The saint that I picked was St Albertus Magnus, and he is the patron saint of philosophers, scientists, and medical scientists. I chose him because a lot of my family members are doctors and medical workers.

Last week, on the 30th of October, some Year 6s received the Sacrament of Confirmation, which was very exciting. If you don't know the meaning, here's what it is: it is when you're saying yes to continuing to be a Catholic. My experience with this was the best experience ever. It was the best because now I feel closer to God.
When you do Confirmation, you have to pick a saint to follow, and for my saint I chose St Francis of Assisi. One thing I learned about him was that he was the co-patron saint of Assisi with St Clare of Assisi. I chose him because he was a very loyal, kind, and caring person, and I want to follow in his footsteps.
Now that I've been confirmed, I promise to always do what Jesus did and what my saint did - being kind, respectful, caring, and loyal. In the past, we have had Confirmation at St Joseph’s Church, but this year we were very grateful to have it at St Patrick's Cathedral, which was very beautiful.

Last Thursday night, the Year 6s had their Confirmation at St Patrick’s Cathedral. I thought we all had a good time because there were lots of people there. It felt really special to be confirmed in such a beautiful place.
My sponsor was my neighbour, Jan Brown. My saint was St Sebastian. St Sebastian is the patron saint of athletes.

As we arrived at the Cathedral, I was really nervous, but with my godmother and friends next to me, I felt okay. We sat down in our seats and listened to the Mass before all Confirmation candidates were called up with their sponsors. When we walked up, my sponsor gave the priest a card with my saint’s name on it and he made the sign of the cross on my head. We then sat down again. The Mass finished, and we got some photos before heading home.

I really enjoyed doing Confirmation because we got to learn about Jesus and God and all the different stories, like Pentecost.
I chose St Dominic Savio as my saint because he was fourteen when he died, and in those fourteen years he tried to teach everyone about Jesus and the way he lived. He also tried to imitate Jesus every day, even when he got blamed for things he didn't do. He could see and hear things that other people couldn't. He learned how to serve Mass at age five and received his First Communion at age seven.
It was really special to be confirmed at St Patrick's Cathedral, especially by Bishop Les Tomlinson. I loved how, during the Mass, the sun shone through the stained-glass windows, illuminating the Cathedral. I loved walking out of the Cathedral and looking up to see the amazing stained glass of Jesus and the Apostles. Thank you Ms Smith, Ms O’Dwyer and Ms DeVisser for preparing us so well.
