Principal's Message

Wawa, Wominjika.

Here at Old Orchard Primary School, we acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land we visit each day, the Wurrunguri and Woiwurrung people of the Kulin nation. We acknowledge and respect the elders and leaders past and present and the elders and leaders of all of the cultures and nationalities that are part of the Old Orchard Primary School community. We express our gratitude towards the orchards that were kept in place by the peoples on this land before us. We thank the traditional owners for sharing this beautiful land that we all love, and for keeping the land, sky, waterways and animals all in great condition for thousands of years, not only for themselves but for all the generations to come.

Spring Soiree

Congratulations to our talented Old Orchard musicians who performed superbly at the Spring Soiree earlier this week. The audience was entertained by our wonderful choir, solo vocalists, guitarists, pianists and keyboard players, a flautist, violinists and others. It never ceases to amaze me the depth of talent amongst our students and the necessary dedication and commitment that is associated with their musicianship. Thank-you to our Music Captains and MC’s, James and Sehara, to our amazing Music teacher, Rhiannon and our accompanist, Jodi.

Year 2 Sleepover

Last week’s Year 2 Sleepover was a huge success. Our students had a fabulous night full of fun, excitement, pizza and a few hours of sleep. Feedback from our staff was extremely positive and the students should be very proud of their efforts. Thank-you to our staff and parent helpers; these events could not occur without your support.

Student Leadership Selection

This morning, I had the pleasure of being in the audience for our Year 6 aspirant student leadership speeches. The quality of the speeches from all students was exceptional and they should all be extremely proud of their efforts. The student leadership selection process is an extensive one, taking into account a range of factors and the selection for 2026 will be a difficult task!

World Teachers’ Day

Yesterday we celebrated World Teachers’ Day at Old Orchard. We are consistently reminded of how fortunate we are at Old Orchard to have such an amazing team of dedicated and committed teachers who consistently go above and beyond expectations to meet the needs of our students and to provide them with a positive school experience. Just as we do with our students, it is important to occasionally take a moment to acknowledge the efforts of our teachers and support staff.

Bogan Bingo

Thank-you to Sarah Freeth and her team for the fantastic Bogan Bingo function last Saturday. By all accounts it was a fantastic evening with lots of fun had by all and valuable funds raised for the school. Well done to all involved.

Cup Day Monday and Cup Day

Just a reminder that Monday is a Pupil Free Day and Tuesday is Melbourne Cup Day. School will be closed on both days.

Kind regards

Duncan
