BYODD Update

BYODD update

Following a recent Compass communication regarding the BYOD program and the amount of screen time our children are exposed to, I wanted to reinforce the following points of concern for families.

  • Families can purchase the BYODD device using the school portal and this can be used from 2026 onwards. This will be supported by our technicians at school and LWT service department.

  • Families can use a device from home as long as it meets the specifications required by the school, this device won’t be supported by our technicians, and you will need to contact our it manager to confirm suitability.

  • Students who have been using their own devices prior to 2027 will be able to continue to bring their devices to school, but we will be following the new recommended device use times.

  • Students who don’t have a device will access a shared program at the school and these devices cannot go home with the student.

  • Students with disability who use a digital device as a reasonable adjustment are exempt from these changes.

  • From 2027 we will no longer invite families to purchase or bring their own digital devices to use at school from Prep to Grade 6, unless purchased prior to 2027.

  • CJC will follow new recommended digital device times, including minimal screen time for Prep to Grade 2; and a maximum of 90 minutes per day for grades 3 to 6, starting in 2027.

  • Planning has already commenced at CJC so we can support this directive and maintain a strong IT program at our school.

So, families can proceed with confidence to purchase a device for the upcoming school year knowing they can be used by their child throughout their time in years 3-6 at CJC.

We thank you for continually supporting our work at the school and the opportunities our programs provide.

All devices ordered before 09 January 2026 will be available for pick-up on the first day of school 2026.
