Boarding News

Mr Jim Noble, Assistant Head of College - Boarding

As we head into Week 5, the term is slipping away and yet there is so much to cram into what remains of the 2025 school year. Our Year 12 boys continue with their external examinations and are doing quite well with this extended period of study and the pressure that comes with it. They have set a solid example for the rest of the boarders this year and this has been evident again during their exam period with their consistent effort. I know the Year 12 boys are looking forward to their graduation on Friday 21 November and celebrating the end of their schooling with family, friends and the school community. We wish the boys well at this busy time.

Last weekend the boarders participated well in a variety of recreation activities organised for their enjoyment. Our recreation offering is particularly important in Term 4 because there is very limited AIC sport for the boys to play. We had a number of keen youngsters head off to the cinema to watch “Tron: Ares” on Friday night. Then on Saturday, there was a shopping trip into the Queen Street Mall which was enjoyed by a large group of boys. A busload went to the Brisbane Bullets vs Sydney Kings basketball game on Saturday night. And finally, we joined five other boarding schools for a combined Pool Party at Nudgee College on Sunday. The boarders are very lucky to have so many other activities to help them stay active and busy outside of school and co-curricular commitments.

As we plan ahead for next year, Marist is recruiting for a House Parent to support the boys who will be in La Valla Residence. This critical new role will assist the Boarding Leader of La Valla by providing an additional layer of care and support for the Year 6/7 boarders. Our youngest and newest boarders will benefit greatly from this person as the boys adjust to living away from their family, navigate the boarding routine and develop independence gradually. I am excited to add this new position into our boarding staff structure next year.

We wish our Year 12s well in their last week of external exams and this sees assessment deadlines getting closer for our younger boarders. Plenty of study coming up in the next few weeks!

I hope to see many boarding parents and family members in the final two weeks of term before the boys head home for holidays.
