Congratulations to Prep Floyd for winning this fortnight's Maths Challenge!

LITERACY
Students have continued working on their individual country research projects this week. All students began by completing the research template. We then put a big focus is on helping students translate their research into their own words to build authentic understanding and avoid copying from sources.

MATHEMATICS:
This week in Mathematics, students continued developing their measurement and area skills through hands-on tasks. They measured the length, width, and height of real bricks using centimetres and millimetres, weighed bricks using grams and kilograms, and then created scale models using LEGO. Students also focused on using rulers accurately by lining objects up at zero, estimating lengths before measuring, and checking results together as a group. Guiding questions such as “What happens if I don’t start at 0 on the ruler?” and “Was 12 cm a good estimate? Why or why not?” helped deepen their understanding.

In addition, students used grid squares and formal measurements to find the area of rectangles and counted half or partial squares to calculate the area of irregular shapes and used the formula: length x width. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they compared their models and measurements to real objects. We also wrapped up our Fluid sessions on Time, and we are proud of the excellent progress students have made in developing their time skills.

TOPIC
Building on our Our Island Home Inquiry unit, students have worked beautifully with Mrs Leed in Art to design and construct their island models. The results so far are fantastic, and later this term we will display them alongside our flags, national anthems and coats of arms in a special exhibition.

GIRLS IN STEM:
We were lucky to have Arabella and Elsie, our Grade 6 STEM Leaders, run a coding session for us. They introduced us to BeeBots and taught us how to code them to move accurately. Students designed their own tracks and used trial and error to manoeuvre their BeeBots around the course. There was plenty of excitement when we achieved success!
A big thank you to Elsie and Arabella, we loved our BeeBots session!

COUNTRY & BELONGING:
We had our third Country and Belonging session recently, a reminder of the project is below.

'Country and Belonging' is a project that Arena Theatre Company is delivering for our entire Grade 3-4 cohort this term. A combined art and performance program, students will participate in in-school workshops each Wednesday across 5 weeks; the second week's session, however, is a guided excursion to Bendigo Art Gallery. A big thank you to Mr Daenke for organising this important journey for us!
