Year -1/2 Unit

We have continued to have students and teachers away due to illness over the last few weeks. We hope to have everyone back to full health very soon!
Inquiry
We were very excited to visit the Melbourne Museum last Thursday. It was a great experience for our students to make connections with their learning about Dinosaurs.
Students took part in the staff-led Dinosaur Features program. They explored the Dinosaur Walk, Triceratops, Gondwana Garden, and 600 Million Years galleries to deepen their understanding of the prehistoric world. This has been valuable in developing our understanding of what Dinosaurs needed to survive, their diet, the features that made them unique and the different habitats they lived in.
Thank you to all our parent helpers who were able to attend! We appreciate your help!
Literacy
Students have been reading Explanation Texts during reading and practising our reading strategy skills by making connections, asking questions and summarising. Some of things we have read about include: How to stay safe during a tornado? and Why do planes fly?
We are finishing up our unit on Explanation Texts - students have had lots of fun researching and writing about things they want to know. Some topics include:
How to stay healthy
How to look after a dog
How to have good dreams
How do volcanoes erupt
Why do we have droughts?
Why are rainbows so colourful?
Maths
Students have continued to practise o’clock, half past and quarter to, quarter past times on an analogue clock. We encourage you to:
Notice clocks together
Ask your child to tell the time on clocks around the house or in public places (e.g. “What time is it on the microwave?” “What time does the movie start?”).
Talk about daily routines
Discuss times for familiar events — bedtime, dinner, school, or sport — using o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to.
Use real-life examples
Ask questions such as, “If we leave at half past 3, what time will it be in 15 minutes?” or “It’s quarter to 6, how long until dinner at 6?”
Please make sure your child is still bringing in their Reader Diary and Magic Word book every Friday for the classroom teacher.
Thanks so much for all of your support!
