Carlsruhe Annexe /
Main Campus - Year 4
The weeks are just flying by with lots of exciting things happening in the Carlsruhe unit! We are busy behind the scenes organising our trip to Phillip Island, which will be here before we know it. Thank you to all those who have returned the Confidential Camp Forms. Please remember to hand them to your child’s teacher as soon as possible if you are yet to do so.
Last week during Literacy, we have been continuing to focus on poetry and using poetic language to tell a story. Students wrote some amazing poems about the water cycle using similes and personification. We were absolutely blown away by their creativity! Here are some examples:

Students have started working on their dioramas as part of our Inquiry learning, also based on the water cycle and so we are looking forward to seeing what fantastic creations they will produce.
In Maths, we have continued to embed our skills whilst working with fractions, converting improper fractions and mixed fractions. We have had lots of fun playing games and linking our learning to real life situations, which then linked perfectly to our next unit of learning, looking at the probability and likelihood of things occurring including everyday scenarios.
Out at Carlsruhe, 4LS and 4SM began our Friday activities. Some of the fun this cycle has involved delving into the microscopic world beyond what our eyes can see with the microscopes, re-creating a picture of Carlsruhe using the pointillism technique, weaving with wool and sticks to create a ‘God’s Eye’, sewing to create a cushion or bag, planting and tending to plants, as well as cooking some delicious treats using the ingredients grown in the garden. A huge thank you to all the parents who have volunteered their time to help so far. We still have a few spaces available so please get in touch with Alison or Lisa if you are free Friday mornings between 9.45am and 11am. The students have had a brilliant time so far, and these sessions can only be made possible by your fantastic support!
