Today, our Year 2/3/4 students enjoyed an absolutely eye-opening visit to Hollyburton Farm, home of Madelaine’s Eggs. The children were amazed to see how free-range eggs are produced, with around 4,000 chooks roaming across 30 acres of open paddocks!

This visit was part of the STEM learning students have been exploring at school, connecting classroom investigations with real-world examples of sustainability, agriculture and technology in action.

The chooks were completely at ease, happily wandering about as the students explored and learned. The children had the chance to collect freshly laid eggs and watch how they’re cleaned, weighed and packed. They also met the farm’s pigs, who play an important role in keeping the farm organic and sustainable.

Next week, the rest of the school will get their turn to experience this fascinating excursion. A huge thank you to Madelaine for her generosity, warmth and time in sharing her incredible farm with our students.

Bolinda is looking a little greener thanks to a wonderful visit from Junior Landcare volunteers last week! Together with our students, they helped to plant a variety of native trees, shrubs and grasses in our new front garden.

It was a fantastic team effort — trowels in hand, everyone pitched in to bring the space to life. The excitement was contagious as the children worked side by side with the Landcare team, learning about caring for the environment and how native plants support local wildlife.

This garden project has been a long time coming, and it’s so rewarding to see it finally taking shape. In time, these plants will grow into beautiful, shady and peaceful areas for students to enjoy and learn in.

Cutlery Reminder

We’re always happy to heat up food for students at school — but please make sure your child brings their own cutlery each day. We are unable to provide cutlery for your child as we are running very low.

Since the start of the year, we’re down to only 9 forks. Our cutlery is part of the Kitchen Garden program, and when pieces go missing, it makes things tricky for our grades when they’re cooking or preparing meals.

If you happen to have any spare forks at home that you’d be happy to donate to the school, we’d be most appreciative. Every fork helps keep our Kitchen Garden program running smoothly!

Out-of-Hours School Care Program

School Council has approved moving forward with an Expression of Interest (EOI) to find a third-party provider to operate an Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) service at Bolinda Primary School.

A huge thank you to all the families who took part in our recent survey — your feedback has been invaluable. The information gathered will help potential providers develop proposals that reflect the needs of our school community.

The next step is to contact OSHC providers and share our school’s details and community insights. Interested providers will then be invited to visit the school for a tour and, if they wish to proceed, submit a proposal to School Council for consideration.

This is an exciting step towards providing additional support and flexibility for our families, and we look forward to keeping you updated as the process continues.

End-of-Year Concert

Our End-of-Year Concert has been confirmed for Thursday, 18 December, at 6:00 pm at Gisborne Secondary College.

Students will travel by bus to the venue in the afternoon and enjoy dinner together before taking to the stage at 6:00pm. This special evening will also include the graduation of our Year 6 students — always one of the biggest highlights of the year!

Our Year 6s have plenty to look forward to, with their Graduation Dinner at Soltan Pepper on Thursday, 4 December, followed by their final camp of primary school the week after. It’s shaping up to be an unforgettable few weeks for them!

We can’t give too much away just yet, but our teachers are already putting in a huge effort to make sure every student shines on the night.
