Canine Comprehension

In week 5 for Canine Comprehension students learned about how self-talk can impact our emotions and actions. Students practiced positive self-talk and strategies they can use to control their emotions and bring positivity to their day. Students make the connection between positive self-talk and their inner coach. Some of the positive self-talk statements included:

  • You can do it
  • Every minute counts
  • Be brave
  • You’ve got this
  • One thing at a time

Students also identified what negative self-talk is and how it can negatively impact their emotions and actions. Negative self-talk was likened to as a critic. Some of the negative self-talk statements included:

  • I give up
  • It’s too hard
  • I’m going to fail

Finally students worked on practicing the three C’s. This includes:

Catch it

Check the facts

Change it

This strategy is used to help students be curious and not assume things.
