School Council Highlights –  October Meeting 2023

  • Jack from JKB represented Junior School Council (JSC) and updated School Council members on the remaining projects for 2023. The new soccer nets have been getting a lot of use.  In addition to attending School Council meetings, JSC also assign members to speak at both whole school and year level assemblies, giving all members an opportunity to speak in front of their fellow students and to present their collective ideas.  This is always a highlight at our meetings, as the students have valid ideas that are worth sharing and implementing.  Jack shared with us how much he is enjoying Year 2 and that the highlight of being on JSC has been using his leadership skills.
  • As previously shared via the CHPS Newsletter and CHPS CHAPS FB page, School Council would like to collectively congratulate CHAPS President Danielle Bell on receiving the Parents Victoria Joan Kirner Award for Parent Participation. You are already a winner in our eyes and we value your leadership of CHAPS this year and your continuous execution and driving of both fun and fundraising events for students and families to enjoy.  Every event is a success thanks to your efforts and the efforts of the wonderful CHAPS team.  You can read more about the award and the work of Parents Victoria via their latest Newsletter:   parents-voice-9-conference-report-news-and-coming-events
  • Workshop – we reviewed the results from the 2023 School Staff and Student Attitudes to School surveys. These two data sets are reviewed every year with comparisons being made to previous years results, to other government schools and to the school's strategic plan and 2023 AIP (Annual Implementation Plan) goals. The results were again overwhelmingly positive, reflecting on the successful learning environment that exists at CHPS.  Areas of growth are investigated and success is celebrated amongst the staff and at School Council. This survey data is also used during the development of the goals contained within the 2024 AIP and these results will be included and reflected upon in the 2024 School Review (which occurs on a 4-year cycle). Thanks to Christian, Ali and Jordan for leading the workshop and providing the opportunity to celebrate and reflect on these data sets.
  • Parent Payments - The Finance Committee and School Council have reviewed, approved and endorsed the Parent Payment arrangements for 2024. We can report to families that there will be no increase in the parent payments in 2024 and the payment arrangements will remain the same as this year. More information will be sent home to families  in the coming weeks.
  • Facilities and the learning environment - ceiling works were completed in the holidays and there are a few projects underway this term. Solid plans are in place for many facilities additions and upgrades in 2024, thanks to funding from grants, CHAPS fundraising and School Council funds.
  • Thanks to all parent volunteers that have attend Year 3, 4 and 5 Camps this week. We appreciate your support at these events and helping to make these experiences so memorable for students. Thanks also to the relevant CHPS staff for organising, supervising and implementing these camps.
