Positive Schools Conference - By Amanda Palombi
In week 6, the leadership team had the privileged opportunity to attend the Positive Schools Conference over 3 days.
The Positive Schools Conference featured presentations and workshops from some of Australia's most innovative, inspiring and grounded presenters. In a climate where we continue to battle the ongoing impact of COVID and natural disasters, the conference focused on the need to support student anxiety and school refusal as well as staff wellbeing and other mental health needs across the whole school community.
It emphasised the belief that now is the time to build momentum on the systemic development of our schools and colleges and as such chose to place a spotlight on educational measures of success, as well as ask how we might better support competency and meaningful outcomes in all young people.
Various presenters focused on the art and science of effective communication, as the importance of developing and maintaining strong relationships is pivotal to building cohesive thriving communities. It is vital that we regularly revisit and develop our communication skills in an inclusive, mindful and supportive way.
Ironically, it is when mental health and wellbeing challenges are most prevalent that it is difficult to find the resources needed for professional support. During this time of continued uncertainty and challenge, we were especially appreciative to attend the Positive Schools conference.
