Slam Series

It was wonderful to see our Year 3 & 4 students in action at the recent SLAM Basketball event held at Bendat Stadium. The students showed the hours of training they had done not only in their sportsmanship, but in the number of games they won.  The girls won all four games and the boys won four of their five games.  Parents were out in full force to cheer their child on in the day long basketball competition.  A huge thankyou to all of the parents who were involved in making this event a reality for our students.  A special shout out to parents Matty Knight and Tim Newey for coaching our students.

Crazy Hair Day date change

The P & C Crazy Hair Day has been moved to Wednesday 15th November. Classes will assemble in the undercover area in their class groups from 8:45am.  The students of each class will then parade across the stage to show off their Crazy Hair.  A gold coin donation is asked by the P & C to participate in this event. Parents/carers are welcome to watch the parade, which should go for approximately 20 minutes.

Class Placement 2024

Thank you to the families (from Pre-Primary to Year 5) who are leaving Burrendah PS at the end of this year who have notified Reception.  We wish these families the very best as they move schools.  If you are yet to inform Reception that you will not require a class placement for your child in 2024, please do so as a matter of urgency.

Thank you to families who have sent in a 2024 class placement request for consideration.  These requests are due by Friday 17th November. Please email Burrendah.PS@education.wa.edu.au

Karrakin Block Opening

Our mural in Karrakin Block is taking shape and will be completed in time for Karrakin Block to be officially opened on the 10th November by Dr Jags.  I look forward to seeing as many parents/carers who are able attend this special assembly. This event will then be followed by my farewell. Our assembly commences from 9:00am.

Staffing update

Thank you to Ms Mia Kalotay who has been teaching for the last month in Room 27. Ms Kalotay has seamlessly fit into Burrendah PS. We wish her the best for her future in teaching.  Mrs Richardson will be returning to Room 27 from Monday 6th November.

I will be taking leave from Monday 13th November until Thursday 23rd November inclusive. Miss Jenkins will be the principal while I am on leave.

I will be back for our Parent Thank you Morning Tea on Friday 24th November. This will also be our school gardener, Mr Scott’s, last day before retiring. Congratulations to Ms Ruth Jones who will be commencing as our new school gardener from Monday 27th November. Ms Jones will be working with Mr Scott over the next few Mondays as part of her handover.

Interschool next week

Our Interschool students are busy practising for Interschool that will be held next week. Jumps/Throws will be held on Tuesday 7th November and the Athletics Carnival on Wednesday 8th November.  Both events are from 9:00-1:00pm at Langford Park Sporting Complex, Wingrove Rd Langford. I encourage as many parent/carers as are able to come along and cheer on their child as they represent Burrendah Primary School.

Music Concert

Our annual Music Concert will be held next Monday 6th November from 6:00-7:30pm in Karrakin Block. This is a wonderful event that showcases our music program run by Ms Coleman. I look forward to seeing families involved in this event as we celebrate your child’s wonderful music accomplishment.

Kindy Orientation

On Wednesday we held our 2024 Kindy Orientation. It was fabulous to see so many mums and dads attend this event. Congratulations to Miss Jenkins and to Mrs McGrath for all of their organisation. The ECE staff did an amazing job for children and parents alike to learn about Kindergarten for next year.

Board Sport Survey

We received 55 survey responses from 469 families regarding two questions on Sport. Every classroom from Year 1-Year 6 provided their top 3-5 responses.

1.  How can we improve school sports for students and parents?

2.   In what ways do you believe the school can better promote physical fitness and sports skills development?

Two main themes of the survey results were:

Promotion of Physical Activity   - This theme encompasses the desire for increased physical activity opportunities, such as before and after-school programs and whole-school fitness sessions, highlighting the importance of physical well-being.

Community Involvement -This theme emphasises the involvement of the school community, including parents and local sports organisations, in supporting and enhancing sports and physical fitness initiatives.

These two themes will be further explored in 2024.
