A Unified Approach to Road Safety

At Camden High School, the safety of our children outside school grounds is a top priority. The surroundings of our school serve as a crucial space where we must collaborate to ensure a safe environment for students, parents, and the community.  The area around our school experiences peak traffic flow during drop-off and pick-up times. This heightened activity can lead to congestion, increasing the risk of accidents involving both vehicles and pedestrians.

We have a designated parent pick up and drop off bay. In order to maximise the number of cars that can be there at the same time please always move as far forward as possible, and then wait until the car in front of you moves. In this fashion, at least 10 cars can be dropping off and picking up students together and safely. Please do not pull out of the queue, but rather wait until the line of cars moves forward. This will keep traffic moving and prevent accidents.

When picking up students we strongly encourage you to ALWAYS use the pick up and drop off bay and not wait on the other side of the road. This prevents students from having to cross the road at a very busy time with high traffic flow. The next best, and safest alternative would be to park on the school side of Cawdor Road.

Please do not park on the island bays as this restricts visibility and council have also reported that you may be fined as it is not a designated area for parking.

By fostering a culture of collaboration among parents, educators, local authorities, and residents, we strengthen our collective commitment to road safety. The P & C are currently in open dialogue, advocating for necessary infrastructure improvements, and supporting enforcement efforts in safeguarding our school zone.  At all times, we are all responsible for ensuring that road safety outside our school is not solely a matter of compliance with regulations but a testament to our community’s dedication to protecting our children.
