From the Principal

Term 2 has certainly been a busy one for Camden High School, and this year has continued to fly past.

Every day I am reminded of the many ways in which Camden High School works to provide broad, inclusive and rich curriculum, with strong co-curricular activities. This has been strongly demonstrated this term with the hosting of significant school and community events, typified by the annual Camden – Cowra Exchange.

It is a tradition that is very special and holds generational importance to both the Camden and Cowra school communities, and for our students, it is a privilege to be chosen to represent Camden High School. Despite the challenges the weather presented us, it was a fantastic few days, and the enthusiastic support of both school communities has strengthened the commitment of both schools to keep it vibrant and relevant for our students and communities of the future. Both schools should be congratulated on their fierce competition and rivalry, but also on their great displays of skill and sportspersonship across all sports and competitions throughout the exchange.

A big shout out and thank you to the Camden families who billeted our Cowra friends and looked after them so well. Your hospitality and generosity is a very special part of the exchange, and an opportunity for lifelong friendships to be forged.

To all of the staff involved from both schools, it is important to acknowledge the time, effort and energy that you all put in to make the exchange happen. Specifically for Mr Garland (Camden High School) and Mrs Buckely (Cowra High School), the enormous amount of preparation and organisation, is truly appreciated.

Congratulations to all staff and students involved in the exchange, and on retaining the Robert Montgomery Shield.

As we publish this newsletter, Year 12 students have commenced their Trial HSC examinations. Trial exams are an essential part of preparing for the HSC exams. Students are able to experience what the real exams will be like, practice their time management skills in exam conditions, identify their strengths and weaknesses, and receive valuable feedback on their performance. I know that our students have prepared diligently, and we wish them the best of luck.

A reminder for all members of the school community of the NSW Government and Department of Education policy for a mobile phone ban in high schools. Camden High School has a Locked Device Pouch System and this applies to all school hours, including break times at recess and lunch, HUB periods for our senior students, as well as while students are on school-based events and excursions. Unlocking stations are available at key entrances to the school, and students are expected to turn off their phones and place them into pouches upon entry to the school grounds each morning. Unlocking stations are then available at the end of each day after the final bell has gone.

At recent P+C meetings, there have been concerns raised regarding traffic congestion and safety at drop off and pick up times. I would urge all members of our school community to take care, follow road and parking rules, and have safety as a top priority during these busy times of the day.
