Cultural Day
Every day Matters
On Friday 31st May, Homestead held its much anticipated Cultural Day as students and staff members celebrated their backgrounds through a day of fun events. It was a spectacular demonstration of our community’s pride in diversity and words cannot express how splendid everyone looked in showing off their respective backgrounds.
The day started with a ‘Fashions on the field’ event where students and staff members proudly walked down the runway in their traditional attire. Then a whole school shared cultural feast was prepared for lunch in conjunction with our newly introduced photo booth. Our day concluded with a showcase in which many talented students got to share their cultural dances and music with us all. Throughout the day, each of us were able to embrace our backgrounds and gain a better insight of the diverse cultures that surround us.
We would like to express our appreciation to everyone who participated on the day. We would like to recognise the efforts of Rebecca Collins for her ongoing guidance and support during the initial months of planning. She along with many of the teachers and staff were some of the key contributors towards the success of the event. We’d also like to acknowledge and thank the involvements of: Pat, Brenton, Mitch, Kimberley, Natalie, Kathrine, Neena, Amy, Danijel, Mark, Sofiya, Vickie, Su, Padma, Tania, Puja, Jackson, Emeline, Glenn, Fiona, Sarah, Suzy, Patricia, Brad, Harneet, the media team consisting of Miguel, Ashton, Rory, Jaxon, Vyshnavi, the Year 12 VCEVM class and Alexa, Zane and Alandrew from the Year 11 class, as well as all of the other staff , because we wouldn’t have been able to do the day without them.
To our performers, we were all immensely proud of the beautiful performances each of you delivered. Despite some obstacles, we were amazed to see how you all persevered with your unwavering spirits and presented such a magnificent showcase of our community’s cultures. The passion each of you directed towards your peers and performances, was more than enough to enhance our interpretation of ‘culture’ at the school. It was also great to see some of our teachers out there representing on the dance floor!
To the entire Homestead Community, we would like to thank you all for joining us in our celebration. Cultural Day could not have been as vibrant as it was without all your time, support, and collaboration. After the success of this year’s event, we hope that you look forward to next year’s cultural festivities!
