National Simultaneous Story Time
Last week our school participated in the 2024 National Simultaneous Story time along with over 2 million other readers. This year’s book was Bowerbird Blues. It was a special treat to listen to author and illustrator, Aura Parker read her book via livestream, and then watch her guide us through how to draw a bowerbird.
The students enjoyed doing some creative activities based on the book. Many of these creations are now on display in the library for everyone to enjoy. The year 5/6 students visited classrooms at lunch eating time to read a story to the younger students and share their love of reading books.
Here’s the recording of the live reading of Bowerbird Blues with Aura Parker if you’d like to watch it.
Creative Writing Workshop with Jacqueline Harvey
We were lucky enough to have some year 5/6 students participate in a creative writing workshop with Australian author, Jacqueline Harvey. She gave the students tips on how to hook readers, create a problem or conundrum in a story, write an interesting scene, develop characters and so much more. Please visit the year 5/6 page in this edition to read the students' reflections on the workshop.
If you'd like to find out more about Jacqueline Harvey and the books that she has written, please visit her website - https://jacquelineharvey.com.au/.
Premiers' Reading Challenge
We have now read over 7000 books across the school and have 140 students who have completed the challenge.
Congratulations to Eric L & Zachary C who are our first Reading Champs for the year.
The aim is to get every student to complete the challenge and we are well on our way to achieving this.
Happy reading!
