Children’s Book Week 2024
The Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) is back!
ASPS has started Book Week early, while the official Book Week will be held on the 17th to the 23rd of August.
Auburn South has chosen the Early Childhood category so that younger children will be able to understand the stories.
6 picture story books out of many have been selected by the CBCA judges to be voted on. The library representatives will ask each class to vote on their favourite book and from that we will work out the ASPS favourite book.
ASPS results will then be compared to the CBCA winner.
Harriet & Amber with their team will be reading the following books to all classes:
Can You Teach a Fish to Climb a Tree?
The Concrete Garden
Bear and Duck are Friends
Grace and Mr Mulligan
One Little Duck
Gymnastica Fantastica
READING IS MAGIC!
Mandarin: Kungfu Incursion
On Tuesday, May 28th, all students eagerly awaited their turn to experience the highly anticipated Chinese Kungfu incursion, sorted by year level. During the demonstration, The experts, ‘shifu, ’ which means ‘master’ in Chinese, emphasised that Kungfu cultivates focus and inner strength. From stances that engaged our leg muscles to movements inspired by animals, each moment served as a lesson in self-discipline.
Students were also grouped together to participate in various challenges, including relay races to determine which group could frog-jump or hop on one leg the fastest.
Following the challenges, we were treated to a mesmerising display of stunts and tricks performed by the Kungfu master, leaving us thoroughly impressed.
Overall, the Chinese Kungfu incursion was a resounding success!

Science Talent Search
Dear Families of STS entrants,
We would particularly like to thank the following students for sharing past projects in our recent STS meeting: Rohan M, Clara L, Will H and Vaanika M.
The submission date for the entries is Sunday 21st July, but please note that I will need time to upload the files to the portal, so try to email the project files before this date. There are a number of students who need to collect the official entry face sheet that needs to be signed by student(s) and parents to certify the project. Upon doing this it will need to be sent along with the project files to me.
Below are three important documents, the Entrants letter, the STS oral presentation weblink sharing and the STS submitting projects and judging. The majority of students who attended the last STS school meeting have copies of these but in case they haven’t please read them carefully. There are also some outstanding payments that need to be made. The fee is $9.00 for individual entries and $17.00 for group entries.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me via email: joanne.kretsis@education.vic.gov.au
Thank you,
Jo Kretsis

Mother's Lunch thank you!
Thank you to everyone who attended and made this years Mother's Lunch a huge success. We all had a wonderful day both making new friends and catching up with old ones.
A lot of work goes into making an event like this a great lunch and we'd like to say how much we appreciate the help of Zoe from Your Flower Fix for the stunning floral arrangements, Josh from Naught Gin for the delicious cocktail on arrival and Millie in the office for organising all our ticketing.
A very special thank you to Chloe Quinn and Cam Ward at Jellis Craig Hawthorn for their ongoing support for our school events.

Volunteering at ASPS
After reviewing our current processes, we have developed a Parent/Volunteer Helper Handbook.
Going forward, all volunteers at ASPS (sporting events, classroom reading, excursions, SAKG, canteen etc.) will be required to read this handbook and return the two signed forms, along with their WWC, to the office.
Once this has occurred, then you can volunteer at ASPS.
Please find the Parent/Volunteer Helper Handbook below:
