Celebrations of Learning and Community

At Hazel Glen College, we are fortunate enough to have so many wonderful Education Support staff who work with us every day. From our maintenance and admin staff, IT staff, learning support, wellbeing, library, music, sport as well as art, science and food technology support staff, HGC are so lucky to have so many ES staff to celebrate.

Next Thursday 16th May, it will be Education Support Staff Day. On this wonderful day, we will formally thank our amazing ES Staff. If there is a special ES staff member who has supported your child, we are sure they would be delighted to hear from your child about the difference they make in their day, so please take a moment to reach out to them and let them know!

EDUCATION WEEK: SPOTLIGHT ON STEM

Let's hear from some of our students who are sharing their STEM education experiences:

"In Year 8 Design Technology this year, we are making a Bluetooth speaker.

We have been learning about the design process and materials such as plywood and have been using it to construct our project. We have been doing this throughout the semester and everyone has been working very hard on it. The process of this project despite it being hard, it has been so much fun. We have learned fun things like cutting our wood and eventually putting the pieces together. With our peers we have had some amazing teamwork working together to construct the Bluetooth speaker. Mr Berry and Mr Assender have been really helpful to their students and without them, we wouldn’t have a clue what we were doing." - Layla

"This year, I had the privilege of joining the Whittlesea Tech School Student Ambassador Program. I learned so much about STEM and I’ve seen a range of phenomenons, I didn’t even think was possible! For instance, we had liquid nitrogen poured on us. It vaporized around our feet and it looked like mini-clouds! In addition to this, we had our hair standing on its end while dealing with electricity. We also took the phrase “a trick of light” to a whole new level when we experimented with light, colors and physics! Currently, we are working on projects for the end of year exhibition. We are creating “ecosystems” out of translucent materials, to make it appear like it’s made of light! Since I was a kid, I’ve always been fascinated about science. I’ve always wondered why things work the way they do. It was like the world was a puzzle with missing pieces. Now, I am learning so many new things, whilst still wondering about the world around me. I’ve had so much fun at the Whittlesea Tech School!" - Vinudi

"This year I have had the opportunity to be a part of the Whittlesea Tech School ambassador program. This year we have been focusing on light and have had the privilege to be taught by professionals who work with light to mix physics with art. Science and math are fascinating as unlike other subjects they are something to be discovered not created."- Vincent

"Dear Hazel Glen College Community,

I hope this letter finds you all in great spirits as we embark on another exciting term together. Today, I'm thrilled to share with you why attending Whittlesea Tech School holds a special place in my heart and how our visits to explore the world of colour theory add an extra splash of excitement to my experience.

Let me begin by introducing myself—I'm Jasmeher, a Year 8 Student at Hazel Glen College, and being part of the vibrant Whittlesea Tech School community has been an absolute delight. From the moment I first stepped through the doors, I knew I was in for something truly extraordinary.

One of the things that make Whittlesea Tech School so unique is its innovative approach to learning. Instead of just sitting in a classroom, we're encouraged to roll up our sleeves and dive headfirst into hands-on projects that challenge us to think creatively and problem-solve collaboratively. Whether it's coding, robotics, or digital design, there's always something new and exciting to explore.

But what truly sets Whittlesea Tech School apart, for me, is our sessions dedicated to unravelling the mysteries of colour theory. Twice a term, we have the incredible opportunity to immerse ourselves in the fascinating world of colour — learning about its impact, exploring different colour schemes, and experimenting with various mediums to bring our ideas to life. These sessions not only ignite our creativity but also deepen our understanding of how colour influences the world around us.

Moreover, the sense of community at Whittlesea Tech School is truly inspiring. From our passionate educators who go above and beyond to support us in our learning journey to my amazing classmates who never fail to inspire me with their creativity and enthusiasm, I feel incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by such a supportive and nurturing environment.

As we embark on another term filled with endless possibilities, I am filled with gratitude for the experiences and opportunities that Whittlesea Tech School has afforded me. From expanding my horizons to fostering lifelong friendships, this remarkable institution has truly transformed my life in ways I never thought possible.

Thank you to everyone who gave me the opportunity to go to this event. I have really enjoyed attending and I hope you have a good week.

Warm regards,

Jasmeher"
