Year Two Team News

with Steph, Joel and Georgia

Hello Year Two families,

It’s been a wonderful couple of weeks in Year Two. We have fully immersed ourselves in our narratives for Term 2, ‘The Egg’ and it has been wonderful to feel the excitement in each classroom during these Writing sessions.

We’re so proud of the growth mindsets our students have shown as we’ve conducted a lot of assessments over the past few weeks. It has been fantastic to celebrate all the hard-work the students have done so far this year and see the smiles on their faces as they recognise their own growth!

Last week, the Grade 2 classes recognised the importance of Reconciliation week and participated in a range of activities that reinforced the significance of First Nations Australians, their cultures, histories and experiences. We explored a range of texts written by First Nations authors, connected with Country by exploring the school grounds and spoke about what reconciliation means, as well as the different actions we can take. If you are interested in exploring this further at home, two stories that particularly resonated with the Year Two’s was ‘Sorry Day’, written by Coral Vass and ‘Say Yes’, written by Jennifer Castles.

 Important news:

  • Term 2 Oral Presentation: It’s been a pleasure to listen to so many wonderful presentations about the people (and animals) that are special to the students in Year Two. The students have spoken clearly and shown great levels of confidence in answering questions from other students. We look forward to hearing the remaining presentations over the next week.
  • Grade 2 Sleepover: It is with great excitement that we can announce that a date has been set for our Grade 2 Sleepover. It will take place on Thursday 5th of September (Week 8) More information about the event will be provided early next term, however if you have any questions about the night get in touch with your child’s classroom teacher.
  • King’s Birthday Public Holiday- Monday, 10th June.

Curriculum Focus: Weeks 9 - 10

Literacy: In Writing, we will be continuing to draft and publish our stories, ‘The Egg’.

Numeracy:  We will be focusing revision of all topics covered over the first half of the year.

Inquiry: We will be wrapping-up our inquiry unit, ‘What things are made of, and why?’. To celebrate the learning students have undergone, we will  undertake some science experiments, exploring how different materials work together.

Willy Kids and Respectful Relationships: Through the pillar of Learning, we will be exploring the topic ‘Willy Kids are Reflective Learners’. We will be thinking about everything we have learnt this semester and sharing this with our friends and family.

Here are some pictures of the last couple of weeks of Year Two.

Until next time,

The Grade Two Team - Steph Keswick (2K), Joel Kitchen (2J) & Georgia Grainger (2G)
