Reading

The grade 5/6 classes continue to explore the comprehension strategy of Summarising. This week we have focused on collating similar information from a range of texts. The students worked together to research information on Ancient Egyptian traditions and then shared and categorise their findings as a group. We also continue to work on our independent reading and reading goals. Some of the students are putting in extra effort when presenting and sharing their goals.

This week students have selected one of their two information reports for publishing. They will be publishing either their sea creature or classmate information report. The learning focus has been on using topic sentences to introduce their paragraphs and extending their vocabulary choices by finding appropriate synonyms.

Inquiry

Students have begun researching their Inquiry questions on the ‘The Stolen Generation’. At the end of this unit of work, students will be able to discuss their understanding of the topic and present their research to others. Students enjoyed the chance to sit outside this week as they discovered the answers to their questions.

Over the past two weeks, we have been learning everything about fractions. Students have been placing fractions on number lines, displaying their knowledge with fraction clotheslines, working on improper fractions, skip counting with fractions, renaming fractions into decimals and much more! Teachers are loving the "ah ha" moments of student learning!

S.E.L.

We have been working hard on Mindfulness.

Mindfulness helps students develop awareness of their thoughts, feelings, and surroundings in a calm and focused manner. By learning to incorporate simple mindfulness exercises, such as deep breathing and guided meditation into our lives, we aim to equip our students with tools to manage stress, improve concentration, and foster empathy and kindness. These skills are essential for their overall well-being and success, both in and out of the classroom
