In Maths, the Grade 3/4s have been learning about measurement. We have started exploring the concepts of length, capacity and mass. We have been using formal units (cm) to measure the length of classroom items, such as books, blocks, cards and pencils. We then measured our height with a piece of string, measured it with a ruler in centimetres and then converted it into meters! We were even able to compare our heights by ordering them from smallest to tallest.

We have also continued our work with addition. We have started to explore the formal algorithm for addition. It has been great applying our place value knowledge as we rename 10 ones into 1 ten.
In Reading, the Grade 3/4s have continued to build their understanding of 'summarising'. We have started to explore strategies for summarising non-fiction texts. When reading paragraphs, they searched for the main idea and supporting details.

In Reading, students have also completed activities that have helped them 'build the field' for the writing topic - Uluru. They have read many texts and completed activities which have helped them gain knowledge about Uluru. They will be able to use this knowledge when they write their information report about Uluru.
In Writing, students have been publishing their information reports on 'Koalas'. They have been typing these on their laptops and have been drawing and decorating koalas to go alongside their published reports.
They have also started to create a plan for their next information report on 'Uluru'. Students will be composing our reports next week.

In spelling, students have been learning about the split diagraphs a-e and i-e. They have complete spelling activities every day!

In Writing, some students have also started to create 'All About Me' information reports as a powerpoint presentation.

In Social and Emotional Learning, students have continued to focus on mindfulness. They have engaged in lots of different mindfulness activities. Discussion on how being mindful can help us focus, re-engage and feel positive and connected to the world around us. Some of the activities we have done include: mindful colouring, sitting outside and focusing on our five senses, and scratch art.

Our community leaders for this term have done a wonderful job at running our cohort assemblies! Ella, Ahmad, Nicholas and Rabia speak confidently in front of their peers as they lead the assembly each fortnight. Our cohort assemblies are every second Friday at 2:30pm. Our next cohort assembly is on the 14th June. Parents/families are welcome! Come and join us as we celebrate our learning and share important updates.
