Literacy

The 1/2s have been busy learning about making inferences while reading! This involves using clues from the text such as illustrations that show what is happening, or thinking about what is happening in the story. It involves asking yourself questions while reading, such as; why is the character feeling that way? What are they going to do next? Why did they make that choice?

You can use the picture below to ask yourself; what is happening? How is she feeling? How do you know?

Numeracy

We have continued to work on developing number fluency to assist with solving addition equations. Some of the strategies we are exploring include: pairs to 10, doubles, near doubles, counting on, using number lines, and adding 10.

We have been using lots of manipulatives to make numbers and model how we can bundle ten items together. One example of this is using unifix blocks to practise renaming to 10. If we have 8 blocks and we collect 4 more, we have 12 blocks which means we need to rename 10 and some more. This gives us a tower of 10 plus 2 more, How many blocks is that? 

At home you can practise rolling a dice and adding on while making collections to 10 to find out how many you have.

SEL / Inquiry

During SEL we have been working on mindfulness. During these sessions, we have been learning to relax our body and our mind. This has helped our brain be calm and be ready for our learning. We have enjoyed listening to mindful music when we do this.
