Principal's Report

Hello Everybody,

We are well into the second half of term 2 and making the most of the sunshine this week before the winter blues really take hold. We are looking forward to today's Indigenous Smoking Ceremony and official opening of our sensory garden at the front of the school. Hopefully the rain holds off for the duration of the ceremony, but if it doesn't we will send a Compass notification to let you know the arrangements.

After two failed attempts to acknowledge National Walk Safely to School Day due to inclement weather, we will now wait until later in the year when the weather fines up and we can hold the event in conjunction with Ride Safely to School Day.

Yesterday we wore yellow to represent Wear it Yellow Day as a part of National Reconciliation Week. The gold coins donated are going towards Children's Ground to support first nations children and families. Thank you to everyone who dressed in yellow and made a contribution.

We have recently noticed that some parents and students have been walking around the staff car park and between the parked cars. Please ensure you stick to the footpaths when walking through the school and only use the pedestrian gates to come and go.

CCTV at our school

Courtenay Gardens Primary School has decided to use a closed-circuit television (CCTV) system at our school. Our school has an obligation to ensure the school environment is safe and secure, and fulfil our duty of care to students, staff and visitors.  The CCTV system will assist our school to fulfil these obligations and to prevent and manage other inappropriate behaviour on school grounds. CCTV will also provide enhanced capability to protect our school’s assets against vandalism and theft.

We are following Department of Education policy requirements for the design, installation, management and use of the CCTV systems. This policy is available at: CCTV in Schools – Installation and Management.

We will also place a CCTV Privacy Notice on our school website with more information about our school’s use of CCTV before it is rolled out in full at the beginning of Term 3.

If you have any questions or concerns at this stage, please contact: courtenay.gardens.ps@educationvic.gov.au

Our Biggest Fans!

No, we don't mean our supporters! We mean really, BIG cooling fans! Next week will see the installation of two fans in the gym. All this year's fundraising by our amazing Parent's Association is going towards our payment for these fans. Thank you, parents! We may not notice their benefit now that winter is upon us, but anyone who has sat through an assembly or a lesson in the Gym at the end of a hot Summer's day will understand why we are so excited about this upgrade!

Take care everyone,
