School Leaders Report

Dear Parents and Families,

What a wonderful way to finish the semester! Our Week 9 Assembly was a fantastic celebration of learning, faith and community. Thank you to Andrea's class for leading us in prayer and sharing their inspiring message about being a light of goodness.

We were also proud to see Prep Cindy share their Inquiry learning and Lauren's class present their personalised First Nations illustrations, linking their learning to National Reconciliation Week.

This term we introduced our new School Value Awards, recognising students who demonstrate our values of Being Respectful, Achieving Their Best, and Helping Others Succeed. These awards highlight the many wonderful qualities we see in our students each day and remind us that we have so much to celebrate as a school.

As the semester comes to a close, I would like to thank our dedicated teachers for their care, commitment and hard work, including the completion of Semester Reports. Reading the thoughtful comments about your children has been a wonderful reminder of the growth and achievements taking place across our school.

Thank you also to our Student Learning Officers, whose hearts of gold and unwavering support help every student achieve their best. I would also like to acknowledge our incredible support staff who work behind the scenes to keep St Anne's humming each day. Every contribution, whether seen or unseen, plays an important role in making our school such a special place.

Finally, thank you to our parents and families for your ongoing partnership and support. Together, we create the conditions for our students to thrive.

We wish all students and families a safe, happy and restful holiday break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 13 July, with our Learn to Swim Program beginning on the first day of Term 3.

Warm regards,

Gary Woodward Primary Wellbeing Leader St Anne's Primary School

Class Reports

Foundation

Superworm is the book we have been focussing on for the last 2 weeks in Literacy. We read and discussed the story and learnt the meaning of mope, mutter and cunning. The children enjoyed painting about Superworm. It is very important to read to your child and talk about the story. This will develop their comprehension and oral language skills.

The children are continuing to learn their tricky words every day. These are the tricky words we are learning.

he, was, to, they, are, we, be, me that, said, you, I, the, is, my she, were, has

The children need to read these words quickly so it will help them read their books.

In maths, we have been counting forwards and backwards to 20 and understanding what before and after numbers are. The children are also working at ordering numbers.

Year 1

This fortnight, Year Ones wrapped up their first measurement unit in Mathematics. Students investigated various forms of measurement, including length, mass and capacity.

They used string to measure their arm spans and then analysed the results using statements such as ‘longer than’, ‘shorter than’ and ‘the same as’.

Students practised hefting two objects using their hands and then compared them using scales. Students used language such as ‘lighter than’, ‘heavier than’ and ‘the same as’ to compare the mass of two objects.

Lastly, we braved the cold and ventured outside to measure the capacity of different containers using water. Students practised using statements such as ‘holds more’, ‘holds less’ and ‘holds the same’ to compare the capacity of different containers.

We have had an incredible first semester in Year One. The students should be very proud of the progress they have made. Thank you to all St Anne’s College families for their ongoing support. We wish you warm and safe winter holidays.

Year 2

As we come to the end of the term, we have been busy completing many of our learning units.

In Mathematics, we have been learning about the measurement of mass and capacity. Students enjoyed participating in hands-on activities using balance scales to compare and measure mass, as well as using water to explore and measure capacity.

In Humanities, students concluded their unit by creating and presenting informative posters about Australia. Their work focused on the states, territories, and locations around our country, and they were proud to share their learning with their classmates.

In Writing, students have continued developing their understanding of narrative texts. They have explored the key features of narratives and have been engaged in planning and creating their own stories.

The end of the semester has also involved a range of assessment tasks. It has been pleasing to see the growth and progress that so many students have made throughout the term.

We wish all families a safe, happy, and restful holiday break and look forward to welcoming everyone back for Semester 2 as we continue our learning journey together.

Year 3

Year 3 have had a busy and exciting end to the term. A special highlight was preparing to lead the Assembly prayer. The students practised carefully and did a wonderful job presenting with confidence and reverence. It was a huge success, and we were very proud of them.

In Literacy, we have been learning about Australian poetry. The students have enjoyed exploring poems such as The Ant Explorer by C. J. Dennis and Mulga Bill’s Bicycle by A. B. ‘Banjo’ Paterson. We have been looking at rhyme, rhythm, interesting vocabulary and how poets use humour to tell a story.

In Mathematics, we have been learning about data representation, including how to collect, organise and interpret information. We have also been practising different addition and subtraction strategies to help us solve problems more confidently.

Year 3 have worked hard and shown great enthusiasm in their learning. We hope all families have a lovely break, stay warm and enjoy some well-deserved rest.

Year 5

Year 5 students have been busy reading and studying Waves by Donna Rawlins, a thoughtful text exploring the experiences of refugees and migrants who have travelled to Australian shores over many decades. Through this unit, students have learned about the reasons people immigrated to Australia, as well as the challenges and experiences they faced when travelling and arriving here. They have also explored key vocabulary from the text, including words such as drench, wail and ancestor, and practised using these words appropriately in simple, compound and complex sentences.

In Mathematics, students have been investigating transformations of shapes, including rotating, reflecting and enlarging shapes, as well as drawing and identifying lines of symmetry. They have also explored the concept of chance by describing the likelihood of events, representing chance as a fraction, and conducting a range of chance experiments.

In Connections, students have been developing their leadership skills by creating sporting games in small groups and teaching their classmates how to play. Through this task, they have practised communicating instructions clearly, umpiring games fairly, and organising and setting up activities for their peers.

We wish all families a happy, safe and restful holiday period.

Year 6

The Grade 6 students have continued to engage enthusiastically in their learning, demonstrating great teamwork, creativity and problem-solving across a range of learning areas. It has been wonderful to see students taking on new challenges and developing their confidence both in and out of the classroom.

In Humanities, students have been exploring leadership through sport by working in groups to design and deliver their own active games for the class. As part of this task, they created lesson plans and teaching scripts, carefully considering the rules, instructions and safety requirements needed to successfully lead their classmates. In Mathematics, we have been learning about probability by exploring the likelihood of different events, while also investigating the properties of 2D shapes and developing our understanding of location and movement. In Literacy, students have continued researching the history of pearling in Broome, including the experiences of Aboriginal Australians as divers and the migration of Asian communities to Australia in the early 1900s. Our spelling lessons have focused on blending complex morphemes and applying spelling rules for long vowel sounds, helping students strengthen their vocabulary and spelling skills.

GV Water incursions

As part of Goulburn Valley Water's Water Week celebrations, students participated in the "Every Drop Counts" incursion, where they learned about the importance of water conservation and the role we all play in protecting this valuable resource.

Through a range of engaging activities and discussions, students explored practical ways to save water both at home and at school. The session encouraged students to think critically about their water use and the positive impact small changes can have on the environment.

At the conclusion of the incursion, students were invited to make a water-saving pledge and commit to actions that support sustainable water use. They will also have the opportunity to enter a competition run by Goulburn Valley Water by designing a drink coaster that reflects this year's theme, "Every Drop Counts."

Thank you to Goulburn Valley Water for providing this valuable learning opportunity and helping our students develop a greater understanding of water conservation and environmental responsibility.

Year 1 & 1 Humanities Excursion

Our Year 1 and Year 2 students recently enjoyed an exciting excursion to the Shepparton Aerodrome, Telstra Tower and Victoria Park Lake as part of their Humanities learning.

At the aerodrome, students learned about the important role of the airport, how pilots use windsocks to determine wind direction, runway directions, and the locations planes and helicopters travel to. Year 2 students also climbed the Telstra Tower, identifying local landmarks and exploring the concepts of North, South, East and West.

Meanwhile, Year 1 students enjoyed a walk around Victoria Park Lake, where Tyrell from the Shepparton Council shared insights into the lake’s history and development. Students discovered how the area has changed over time from a popular swimming destination to an important wetland habitat. By examining historical photographs and identifying animals that live in the wetlands today, students gained a deeper understanding of how environments change and the importance of protecting local ecosystems.

It was a fantastic day filled with exploration, discovery and hands-on learning, bringing classroom concepts to life in our local community.

Reminders:

Parents/carers are reminded there is a very important process to follow if your student must leave the college at any time throughout school hours. Please ensure you follow these steps:

Parents/carers MUST provide a note to the front office, at the start of the school day, stating the following:

- Student Name

- Date of leave required

- The time the student must present to reception to take their leave

- If they will return to the college the same day, and if so what time they will return

- The reason for the leave being requested

- The parent/carer’s name and signature

Please note, students will only be permitted to be collected by their parent/carer unexpectedly and without a note if it is an emergency.

We remind all that the college opens at 8:30am. This enables educators time to prepare for their day ahead. We appreciate your support in helping our educators be successful. Yard duty staff begin at 8:30am to monitor play spaces before the school day begins at 8:55am.

Upcoming Dates

Please refer to the calendar on PAM for upcoming dates for activities and events.
